Select Live Arcade titles get a limited time price drop photo
Select Live Arcade titles get a limited time price drop
by Jordan Devore

The Xbox Live Arcade news just keeps on coming, doesn't it? This Labor Day weekend, 4 XBLA games will receive a 50% off price drop. However, this offer will only be available from 12:00 a.m. GMT on Sunday, Sept 2 through 11: 59 p.m. GMT on Monday, September 3.

"Small Arms" – 400 Microsoft Points (normally 800 Microsoft Points)
Easy to pick up but hard to put down, "Small Arms" is a frantic multiplayer action game with the feel of an arcade shooter.
"Zuma Deluxe"– 400 Microsoft Points (normally 800 Microsoft Points)
Explore more than 20 realms in Adventure mode and put your skills to the test in this fast-paced puzzle game.
"Gauntlet" – 200 Microsoft Points (normally 400 Microsoft Points)
The original dungeon crawler lets four adventurers explore and fight together as a warrior, valkyrie, wizard, and elf.
"Dig Dug" – 200 Microsoft Points (normally 400 Microsoft Points)
Experience the fast-paced action of this quarter-cruncher from 1982 as you take control of Dig Dug himself and vanquish Pookas and Fygars.
While I must admit that this is a great deal for anyone who hasn't yet purchased these games, it really does suck for those of us who already have. Do any of you think that these games are worth getting now? I'd personally recommend Small Arms. view full story + comments

E3 2007: Liveblogging the Midway Press Conference photo
E3 2007: Liveblogging the Midway Press Conference
by Papa Niero

4:30 PM - We're sitting in a ballroom watching a Chow Yun Fat trailer that rivals any movie in the theater right now. Stranglehold is introduced as Midway's best action game ever made with a demo coming to the 360, PS3, and PC this August.  The game is also shipping in August.

4:35 PM - A single Blu-Ray disc special edition that bundles both the movie and game on one disc. Another movie comes on demonstrating the game's "Massive D" abilities where he literally decimates an entire parking lot full of cars with a shotgun in slow motion.  The amount of bullets being taken and fired are absurd in the best way possible.  A few cinematic kills are made by jumping off walls, shooting fire hydrants, shooting columns until the support beams around them crumble and become handy ladders and gun cover.

I look behind me and the entire audience of cool video game journalists have their eyes wide open.  Everything from the music to the level design feels completely original.  The attention to detail is intense -- he's fighting a helicopter gunman and I'm distracted by cars in traffic stories below.  I'm going to be sleeping on the sidewalk of GameStop the day this comes out.  The crowd erupts with claps and yelling as the lights come on.

4:45 PM - David Zucker, CEO, takes the stage and begins talking about the investment into the technology to upcoming games Blacksite Area 51 and Wheelman.  Laughter breaks out -- Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am.  It's a golf ninja racing game ... or something.  We laugh hard.  I can't wait.  Mooninites!  Also coming soon is the TNA Wrestling and I tune out.  It sounds like he's talking about a Tits-n-Ass Wrestling game. I wish.

4:47 PM - Five exclusive Nintendo titles announced: Game Party, Crusi'n, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, and two other DS games for the chilluns.  Mortal Kombat on the DS comes on video. Looks cute.

5:01 PM - Blacksite Area 51 comes on video.  The creative director comes on to speak, explaining the premise of the game and we see giant high detail of environments and huge full-screen boss battles.  It feels like the first time we laid eyes on the big bugs of Capcom's third-person shooter. Expect a new demo this August with some new things you didn't see in the May demo.

A new video comes on showing impressive conversation that is topical between the squads.  The speaker explains their goal was to minimize the micro-management of AI by associating multiple events from all the people in your squad.  "We want to make you feel like your team has worked together before and know what to do."  They go into the personalities of the squad and show how your own squad disagrees and fight among each other.  A refreshing take on the stupid cookie-cutter good-guy formula.  There is also a "morale system" that has no HUD but affects how often they shoot and how much they help out.  If they have high morale they're more aggressive, etc. so it forces you to influence them.   Half the time I'm watching I feel like I'm watching Far Cry footage.  It's a really good looking game, but I'm not sure if it's going to make my personal must-play FPS list since 1/3 of the games we have seen here seem to be FPS titles.

5:08 PM - Mark Rein takes the stage to talk about the new UT and announces PC and PlayStation 3 this November and the ability to make user-created mods on your PC and import them into your PS3.  New tools for modders will be shipping with the game. A video of Unreal Tournament we've already seen plays and Mark leaves the stage without any closing statements, leaving the crowd a little surprised. One amused journalist screams "THANKS FOR PLAYING OUR GAMES" as if to fill in a closing statement for Mark.  We all laugh and run like hell to go see what Konami's thing.

This concludes my blogging of the event -- thanks for reading!
