Torchlight II's OST will set you back all of $0 photo
Torchlight II's OST will set you back all of $0
by Tony Ponce

Looking forward to Torchlight II's release in a couple of days? How about the game's soundtrack, composed by Matt Uelmen of Diablo and Diablo II fame? Originally, the OST was released back in June in limited quantities, as Jayson Napolitano previously noted. The good news is that it's now available for the public and for the wonderful, wonderful price of NOTHING!

That's right! You can swing on by the Torchlight II soundtrack page and download the 28-track album right this second. No muss, no fuss. It's a beautiful thing.

I love this recent trend of game composers' giving away their soundtracks. It's such a generous gesture that only gets you more excited to check the full game out. Who among you is going to capitalize on Mr. Uelmen's generosity?

E3: Get your monster huntin' on with MMORPG Raiderz photo
E3: Get your monster huntin' on with MMORPG Raiderz
by Holly Green

In a perfect world, all MMOs would be free to play on a monthly basis. But since they're not, there's Perfect World, the studio behind upcoming monster hunting MMORPG Raiderz. I had the pleasure of sitting down with this ambitious little title during E3 and took it all in for your edification.

E3: Checking in with the Neverwinter MMO

I'm not what you call an MMO fan; in fact, it is the only genre I refuse to play. Imagine my delight at being handed an assignment for Perfect World's MMO lineup, including Neverwinter. Nonetheless, it's my job to give things...

Review: Blacklight: Retribution photo
Review: Blacklight: Retribution
by Jim Sterling

When I first heard that Blacklight: Tango Down was getting a sequel, I was stunned. While the original game looked pretty, this particular reviewer found it incredibly tiresome and miserable to play. I was reluctant to tackle its free-to-play successor, but decided to give it a try anyway.

Some things deserve a second chance, and it seems Blacklight: Retribution definitely earned one of its own.

PAX: Perfect World's RaiderZ and Neverwinter MMO photo
PAX: Perfect World's RaiderZ and Neverwinter MMO
by Caitlin Cooke

This weekend I got a sneak peak at two MMORPGs that Perfect World is currently publishing – RaiderZ (MAIET Entertainment) and Neverwinter (Cryptic Studios).

We started off with some RaiderZ (pronounced Raiders), a free-to-play monster-hunting MMO that is insanely bright and colorful. The open world of RaiderZ is full of giant monsters waiting (literally) to be fought and includes beloved addictions such as crafting, enchanting, and mounts. Characters are basic (berserker, defender, sorcerer, and cleric) but unrestricted – players can choose skills from other character skill trees when leveling up, with over 350 skill combinations in total.  There’s also a full character creator for people like me who love making uggos (or hotties, if you’re into that kind of thing).

As free-to-play can mean many things these days, I asked what it meant for RaiderZ – and the answer I got was quite satisfying. They plan to have a good balance between payers and non-payers, meaning that the full game can be played and completed by anyone regardless of paying status. Cash options have not been determined yet but they’re looking to include payments for things like extra costumes and XP bonuses. As of now there are no PvP servers planned, however they may be open to adding it depending on player demand.

Preview: Going free-to-play with Blacklight: Retribution photo
Preview: Going free-to-play with Blacklight: Retribution
by Steven Hansen

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Zombie Studios creative head and lovely beard owner Jared Gerritzen to look at the new, free-to-play Blacklight game. When I say “Blacklight,” you might think of Jim’s less-than-glowing Blacklight: Tango Down review, and when I say “free-to-play,” you probably stop listening, but you should totally keep listening!

Blacklight: Retribution is indeed a follow up to Tango Down, but it’s a decidedly different game than its predecessor. The intent is to set the standard in the free-to-play shooter realm: high visual fidelity (powered by Unreal Engine 3), consistent new content, and no “pay to win” gating off of items. Coupled with a high level of customization and standout gameplay features, like giant robots, Retribution seems to have a much clearer direction this time around and at the entry price of no dollars, it’s worth giving a shot.
