Evolve offers a refreshingly robust and devious co-op experience photo
Evolve offers a refreshingly robust and devious co-op experience

There's been a lot of buzz surrounding Evolve, the new co-op shooter from Turtle Rock Studios. Helmed by the same developers of the original Left 4 Dead, fans have certainly been chomping at the bit for more information. After a successful closed alpha, the developers took a lot of notes on how players experienced the game to make a better title.

Set on the colonized planet Shear, players take on the roles of hunters seeking to eliminate powerful alien creatures that are attacking the human colonists. If that sounds a little boring, then players can inversely control the malevolent beasts to wipe out the human invaders to reclaim the planet. Though it's often seen as a mash-up between Monster Hunter and Left 4 Dead, which is a totally fair and accurate description, Evolve certainly has unique traits of its own.

At a special press event, we got the chance to get some hands on time the game, while learning more about some of its additions.

Ubisoft removes Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass from the marketplace photo
Ubisoft removes Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass from the marketplace
by Alessandro Fillari

Earlier this morning, several users on NeoGAF noticed that Steam, PlayStation Network, and other online stores had removed all pages for the Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass, with German games site GamersGlobal claiming that Ubisoft plans to redo its entire post-launch plans for the troubled game. But now, the company has announced it is in fact discontinuing sales of the Season Pass and hopes to remedy the situation.

In a post on the official Unity blog, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto CEO Yannis Mallat discussed the state of things and how the company plans to regain consumer trust. In addition to the ceased sales of the Season Pass, holders can expect to receive free content.

"To show our appreciation for your continued support, we're making the upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone," he said. "For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free." Those are: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015.

Want to see new footage of Batman: Arkham Knight? photo
Want to see new footage of Batman: Arkham Knight?
by Alessandro Fillari

After news of the delay back in September, the folks at WB Games and Rocksteady have kept all things Batman: Arkham Knight close to the vest. Thankfully, they figured we could use another appetizer after their showing at E3, and this new gameplay footage makes the wait even harder to bear.

In the video, we get to see the early portions of the game where Batman must rescue hostages from an Ace Chemicals factory. With his Batmobile in tow, he easily breaks in and gets to work on dispensing justice, but he soon learns that the Arkham Knight (voiced by Troy Baker, of course) is calling the shots and will prove to be a worthy adversary.

It's best to go into this without too much description. The gameplay for the Batmobile looks very impressive and I'm glad we finally got a Batman game that does the vehicle justice.

What's Up: Life is Strange, eons of exploration in No Man's Sky, and the many skills of Claptrap photo
What's Up: Life is Strange, eons of exploration in No Man's Sky, and the many skills of Claptrap
by Bill Zoeker

I've been buried in gamescom news this week, but I've surfaced to relay the stories I'm most excited about to you. Life is Strange is an unusual adventure game from the creators of Remember Me. No Man's Sky allegedly would take actual millennium to explore. And we finally see what Claptrap has up his sleeve in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. Turns out, it's a whole bag of tricks.

I felt genuine delight and a little confusion from Sony's gamescom press conference photo
I felt genuine delight and a little confusion from Sony's gamescom press conference
by Bill Zoeker

Sony came and delivered pretty much what I expected from their gamescom 2014 press conference. They had a boatload of indie games with interesting visual styles. They've continued their expansive trajectory of porting bigger indie games, with the announcement of DayZ coming to the PS4.

Of course they also announced slightly confusing and hard to believe hardware features with Share Play and the PlayStation TV's PS4 Remote Play. I used to raise a red flag when Sony promised cool hardware features, as they used to fall flat. However, they seem to be pulling off most of their offerings so far this generation.

Microsoft's gamescom press conference wasn't as bad as I expected photo
Microsoft's gamescom press conference wasn't as bad as I expected
by Bill Zoeker

Microsoft's press conferences often leave me with cranial damage from head-to-desk impact, but their gamescom 2014 presser felt pretty okay to me. I'm excited to see Microsoft making an attempt to partner with more indies. After their poor policies left them with a bad name among the independent development community, it seemed like the PlayStation 4 had substantially more launch content than its rival in the form of indie ports.

In retrospect, with it becoming clear that Rise of the Tomb Raider is not as exclusive as they made it out to be, I'm quite miffed. During the conference, any games that were only timed exclusives, had clear visual and spoken indication of the stipulation. We've been getting more clarification that Tomb Raider is maybe just a prolonged timed exclusive, but the language used in the presentation was pretty obviously meant to make us think Rise of the Tomb Raider would only be on Xbox. That's messed up.
