Need for Speed Rivals lets you play your way photo
Need for Speed Rivals lets you play your way
by Dale North

Mostly, Need for Speed Rivals is all about going fast in cool cars, just like its predecessors. But this new one lets you dig down deeper to race your way with a new progression system and options for customization.

You can play as racers or cops in Rivals, and both sides have a progression system that has groups of themed assignments that follow different styles of gameplay. For example, you can pick the Patrol path as a cop and learn the basics, or go Undercover for different objectives that have you doing more daring things. Being an Enforcer has you out busting balls on the road.

'Terminal Velocity' is Most Wanted's new playground photo
'Terminal Velocity' is Most Wanted's new playground

Criterion Games is a company known for releasing substantial post-release content for its titles.

This statement is no more apparent than with the studio's last Burnout title, Burnout Paradise, which not only saw substantial premium content, but a ton of freebies at that, including the addition of motorcycles and a dynamic weather system. Paradise's biggest expansion came in the form of Big Surf Island, which attached a vast new playing field to the game's core city and brought with it a handful of new cars, races, and billboards.

This notion transitioned to Criterion's latest racer, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, with the game's newest downloadable content, Terminal Velocity -- a pack that has racers take to the skies in a whole new playground ... metaphorically speaking.
