Amazon's gift to you is free (good) Android titles and (more) cheap videogame downloads
by Brett Makedonski

[Update: There are a handful of new deals on videogame downloads, as well as some decent savings on other stuff -- including some portable hard drives that make great external storage for gaming consoles. All updated discounts are toward the top of the list; everything from yesterday's post is underneath it. As is customary, updated Amazon posts get bonus Grohl. #BonusGrohl]

Well, it's tough to argue with this -- free Android games on Amazon, several of which are quality titles. Five Nights at Freddy's? Sure, I'll try it out. Terraria? I'll give it a shot. Tetris? Never heard of it, but maybe it's okay.

When reached for comment, Dave Grohl said that he approved of free mobile games, but he couldn't fully endorse the deals on PC titles. "Even though I'm the sexiest of international rock stars, I'm still wary of paying for videogames," Grohl commented. "Yes, I have more money than I know what to do with, but everyone's trying to sell me computer games. Steam, Amazon, everyone. It's tiring." Grohl concluded by yelling "THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST..." until Destructoid was irked enough to hang up the phone.

Halfbrick makes some good games, and now all the iOS ones are free

Review: Peggle Blast photo
Review: Peggle Blast
by Chris Carter

My criteria for enjoying a game with microtransactions is simple -- am I having fun, and can I consistently have fun without feeling like I need to pay out? Unlike some people who hate microtransactions on sheer principle, if I can play through an entire game without having to indulge or otherwise pay attention to them for one moment, they naturally don't detract from my enjoyment of said game.

If a game entices me to want to pay, I'm generally okay with it, as long as I can play the core game unfettered. See Path of Exile for this model. It works.

Peggle Blast on the other hand is a travesty that attempts to subvert fun at every turn. Shame on you, EA.

Crossy Road is Frogger for a new generation

I'm not one to get into mobile gaming but every few months something comes along and enough friends and peers tweet about it that I feel compelled to join them, if only for a day. Crossy Road, a sort of isometric, voxel-y, ...

Framed is Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima's game of the year

Arkanoid vs. Space Invaders should have happened years ago

I was too young to get into Space Invaders, influential as it was, but Arkanoid is my jam. Taito is working on a mobile game for iOS and Android that combines the two properties, according to Game Watch, and I'm loving the so...

Ebola boosts downloads of world-ending pandemic sim Plague Inc.

Project J looks like a trippy little game I could waste some time with

Sometimes I just want to zone out with some synth music, bright colors, and pure gameplay. Super Hexagon works well for that, but it is always nice to try something new. Project J has an interesting hook to it, where the lig...
