Review: The LEGO Movie Videogame photo
Review: The LEGO Movie Videogame
by Ian Bonds

First things first: if you haven't seen The LEGO Movie, you should probably go do that right now. It's awesome, and your face will love it.

Back yet? OK, good.

For those of you who have seen it, this is your predictable licensed tie-in. Well, predictable in that it exists, not that it behaves predictably as a tie-in. Though, if you've played any of Traveler's Tales LEGO games, there is a certain amount of predictability here anyway.

Not that most of that is a bad thing in this case...

Live Show: Is Lego Movie one of the few good licensed games?

Hey all, consider this a PSA: Lego Movie is good- like really really good. So, when a lovely fan gifted Phil a copy of the game on Steam (Thanks Shadowclone1000!) we were cautiously optimistic. Sure Lego games are typically c...

These Xenogears mecha made of Legos are incredible

Long before Xenogears became my favorite game of all time, Legos were my favorite toy of all time. So seeing the two combined is a thrill for me. Lego user diegocabrera has put together some of the mecha from the PlayStation ...

LEGO The Hobbit sure looks familiar

This trailer for LEGO The Hobbit checks all of the usual boxes for these titles. Coming off of LEGO The Lord of the Rings and its rather neat open-ended world, I'm curious to see how this new game will differ. The silliness ...

LEGO The Last of Us should be a real thing

This video brightened my day in a huge way. It's an animator's idea of what The Last of Us franchise would look like if taken on by the Traveler's Tales team of LEGO game designers. It is now my new go-to argument in favor of the assertion that any idea, however grim, can be made funny with the proper application of Danish construction blocks.

The LEGO Movie Videogame based on The LEGO Movie

I'm so woefully out of touch with modern film news that I had no idea an animated feature was on the way which centered on the world of LEGO, but it very certainly is. And what would a family-oriented major motion picture re...

This sure does look like a LEGO The Hobbit game

Over on the Brickset forums, a teaser page for a LEGO The Hobbit game has been found in the instruction booklets for the upcoming LEGO sets based on The Desolation of Smaug. Warner Bros. hasn't announced this yet, but the ad ...

Life, death, men, women, and LEGO with Holly Pickering photo
Life, death, men, women, and LEGO with Holly Pickering
by Jonathan Holmes

A week and a half ago on Sup Holmes (now on iTunes) we were graced with the company of Ms. Holly Pickering, former artist on the bulk of Traveller's Tale's LEGO games, currently working on Ether One from White Paper Games.

Holly has an ability to talk about incredibly personal, difficult stuff with a total stranger in front of thousands of people, all without ever seeming self-centered or melodramatic. It's equal parts charming and disarming. Her humility and positivity shine through, even when focusing on the many life-changing challenges she's gone through. From a childhood of bonding over computers with her dad, to teenage years wrestling with disapproval from others for loving art and technology, to getting work at Traveller's Tales shortly thereafter, to losing her father to suicide, to going out on her own to work on more personal projects; no topic was off limits.

By the end of the episode, I was ready to simultaneously laugh, cry, and cheer for Holly all at the same time, while she appeared completely unimpressed with herself. Regardless of what she may work on in the future, she can count me among her biggest fans. Thanks again to Holly for appearing on the show, and make sure to tune this Sunday when we welcome Cristina Vee (songstress and voice actress on Shantae, League of LegendsSkullgirls and many others) to the program.

Review: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes photo
Review: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
by Brett Zeidler

Star WarsIndiana JonesBatman (later the entirety of DC), Pirates of the CaribbeanHarry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings -- arguably a majority of the world's largest entertainment properties -- have all been brought to life in videogames after being passed through the adorable LEGO filter by Traveller's Tales. And, well, they've handled each franchise masterfully and created some truly great games with each of them over the years. What could possibly be next?

I can't be the only one who's been dreaming since LEGO Star Wars that we would one day see LEGO Marvel make its videogame debut, but, seeing as Traveller's Tales is a subsidy of Warner Bros., it was seemingly never going to happen. However, by some remarkable turn of events (due to the magic of licensing), here we are with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.

It's nothing short of a miracle this game was even made, but it's something we can only be happy about.
