The Last of Us PS4 remaster is real, according to a PlayStation Store listing (Update) photo
The Last of Us PS4 remaster is real, according to a PlayStation Store listing (Update)
by Chris Carter

[Update: Sony has confirmed The Last of Us Remastered. We can expect higher resolution character models, improved lighting, upgraded textures, and a director's commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Neil Druckman, Troy Baker, and Ashley Johnson. This will also include the Left Behind expansion, Abandoned Territories map pack, and Reclaimed Territories pack. Various retailers are also providing various pre-order bonuses as well.]

The rumor of a Last of Us PS4 remaster has been doing around for some time now, and we seem to have full confirmation of its existence straight from the source. It's since been pulled, but Sony recently put up an advertisement for a "Day 1 Digital" title called The Last of Us: Remastered. The listing notes that it's $59.99, and for the PlayStation 4.

This is great news for those of you who haven't had a chance to play it yet, but since you can pick up the PS3 version on the cheap, we'll have to see if those "remastered" features are really worth it. Again, this is just a rumor, but it's said that the Left Behind DLC will be included.

Mario Kart 8 is stunning and fierce in HD photo
Mario Kart 8 is stunning and fierce in HD
by Alessandro Fillari

As an institution within the videogame racing genre, Mario Kart has always been an example of what arcade style racing is all about. Focusing on simple, pick up and play gameplay, while still offering high level skill based action, the Mario Kart series has been going strong for over twenty years; and it doesn't seem like it'll stop any time soon.

Now, the series is finally taking its first steps onto an HD platform, and after spending about an hour of playtime with it, I just don't see how they can go back after this. I'm just going to come right out and say it: Mario Kart 8 is one gorgeous game.

As the first full HD release of the series, the developers at Nintendo went the extra mile with creating a game that is visually spectacular, but also the most content rich game of the series.

Review: Fable Anniversary photo
Review: Fable Anniversary
by Chris Carter

Fable and I have a history together. Ever since I learned of its existence in an official Xbox Magazine under the codename "Project Ego," I was enthralled by the promises of Peter Molyneux. Back then, he basically could do no wrong, creating masterpiece after masterpiece at Bullfrog Productions.

But in 1997 he left and founded Lionhead Studios, eventually crafting the very first game in the Fable franchise. The first entry didn't really follow up with any of the promises Molyneux made, but despite that fact, it ended up being a serviceable little action-adventure romp.

Not much has changed with the updated Fable Anniversary, for better or for worse.

Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is a fine upgrade photo
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is a fine upgrade
by Chris Carter

When Liberation was released on the PlayStation Vita, I heartily enjoyed the opportunity to play Assassin's Creed on the go. Aveline was a great addition to the franchise, and it showed that Ubisoft could actually handle a heroine with grace.

It wasn't a flawless experience however, as it had a number of frame-rate issues among a few other technical hiccups, mostly due to the fact that it was crammed onto a portable. Here we are over a year later with the HD port, and although some of the problems confusingly remain, the overall package is a much stronger effort.

In other words, you could say the original has become...liberated.

100% Series Retrospective: The Legend of Zelda photo
100% Series Retrospective: The Legend of Zelda
by Chris Carter

[Want to see what I thought of Wind Waker HD and A Link Between Worlds 3DS? Read past my 2011 quest to beat every core Zelda game ever made.]

Halfway through beating Ocarina of Time 3D, I had a pretty neat thought: I decided that in honor of Zelda's 25th anniversary, it would be fun to play through every mainstead Zelda game, including the upcoming Skyward Sword, and beat all of them before the year's end.

Here we are a mere day before the release of Skyward Sword, and my journey nears its final leg. Now is the perfect time to look back on the whole thing, warts and all.
