My little Oculus-chan can't be this cute

At Unite Japan 2014, Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey joked that maybe Oculus needed an Oculus-chan following a presentation that featured Unity's mascot, Unity-chan. Then, the internet took over. Developer Kenji Iguchi compiled some...

Cult of the Wind might just be the funniest arena shooter

A third-person shooter in which combatants are humans pretending to be airplanes -- this is Cult of the Wind. Despite the usual fears that something like this will lose its audience not long after launching, I'm so charmed b...

See what it took for Mega64 to make Kutaragi's Way

As in years past, Mega64 made some videos for the Game Developers Conference. This year in particular was really special, as they were able to get Ken "Father of PlayStation" Kutaragi himself to be involved. The team had a t...

Frog Fractions 2 devs' Kickstarter Sim captures the thrills of crowdfunding

The best gaming related April Fools jokes of 2014
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Today's that special day in the year where everyone likes to lie and mess with people's heads. Some are better than others, so let's take a look at what we think were the best ones of this year's April Fools festivities.

Out of all the jokes, Octodad with 32 dads is the one I think that really needs to happen. Come on, you know you want it too.

Wanna start your Friday feeling depressed?

In My Girl (from Soda Drinker Pro and Vivian Clark creator Will Brierly) you play as Thomas J in a coming-of-age story that's... well, I'm sure you've seen the 1991 movie. In this game you are Macaulay Culkin's character. So you know what happens. Spoiler: It's bummertime. Even the MIDI version of the song "My Girl" adds to the bummer vibe. You can play My Girl right here.

DTOID News: Arkham Knights, Watchdogs, Goats and Ninja Turtles
by Max Scoville

Today, I can finally talk about my impressions of Batman: Arkham Knight, which I saw back and GDC. There’s some new stuff about Watchdogs that’s actually gotten my attention, Sonic has Zelda-themed DLC, Fulgore’s in Killer Instinct finally, Goat Simulator rules, and Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles looks exactly as idiotic as a reasonable person would expect such a thing to be.

Listen to 25 minutes of Goat Simulator music insanity

So when I watched the Goat Simulator trailer I was so focused on the actual gameplay that I glazed over the soundtrack. Thankfully I came across the extended version of the trailer song and I haven't been able to stop replaying it. Yes, I know. I'm not right in the head.

Video: Alt.Ctrl.GDC shows weird new ways of pushing buttons
by Max Scoville

There was a wonderful spread of strange and interesting indie games at GDC, including a special exhibit called Alt.Ctrl, focusing on projects that made use of unusual controllers. Bill Zoeker screwed around with these for a bit before discussing what it's like to play a game with pedals, knobs, dials, cables, sleeping bags, and a receipt printer.

If you want to find out more, I dug up the websites for all of these games:
