Guild Wars 2 PvP to set worlds against each other

I'm always a big fan of when game developers share philosophies and general development methodologies behind the games that they are working on. This week, Mike Ferguson -- of the Guild Wars 2 development team at ArenaNet -- ...

Console version of Guild Wars 2 is progressing photo
Console version of Guild Wars 2 is progressing
by Conrad Zimmerman

In an investor call today, NCSoft confirmed that plans are moving forward on a console release of Guild Wars 2, stating that they are in a "preparation stage." Not long after, ArenaNet's Martin Kerstein took to the Guild Wars 2 Guru forums to calm excited fans, fearful that their PC-exclusive title might be watered down by a console port, to point out that the company has previously stated their intentions and that they have long had a small team pursuing the possibility of release on home consoles.

I can understand the concern from players whenever a PC title is going to see release on a console, but it often sounds like a big brother whining that their little brother gets to have a toy at all when they get to play with the far cooler version of the toy. If you're still worried, be sure to check out our impressions of the upcoming Guild Wars 2 closed beta that will be posted Monday morning.

Guild Wars 2 coming later this year with betas in spring

Destructoid's most wanted PC games of 2012 photo
Destructoid's most wanted PC games of 2012
by Allistair Pinsof

It's a strange time to be a PC gamer. With fewer high-profile exclusives, it has become a glorified Xbox 360. Thanks to efforts from developers and publishers, it's a superior 360 where draw distance, anti-aliasing, and frame-rate rarely get in the way.

If you are a PC gamer, you'll rarely feel left out as most of 2012's biggest titles are coming to the platform. What's more exciting is that some of the most beloved franchises are finally making a return this year, including Jagged Alliance, Diablo, and Counter-Strike. As someone who recently purchased a new PC, I'm happy to say I don't regret it one bit looking at these upcoming titles.

The best thing? Even if all these games suck, we still have some kick-ass Skyrim mods to look forward to! Take that consoles! You dicks!

Guild Wars: Winds of Change part two is live photo
Guild Wars: Winds of Change part two is live
by Derek Hryniewicz

Guild Wars launched the second chapter in the Winds of Change trilogy today. The previous installment added 17 new quests and this chapter will feature 11 more on top of that, which also makes Winds of Change the largest combined free content update in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Win!

Along with the new quests, this content update will feature five new respawn zones: Bukdek Byway, Shadow's Passage, Shenzun Tunnels, The Undercity, and Sunjiang District. There are also some additional hidden scenes players have the opportunity to unlock as well.

Personally, I cannot wait for Guild Wars 2, although being caught between the Ministry of Purity, The Jade Brotherhood, and the Am Fah is good times as well!. Anyone out there planning on exploring this content?

Guild Wars 2 Charr plushie now on sale

Based on what I've seen of Guild Wars 2 so far, "cute" and "cuddly" are two of the last words I'd ever use to describe the Charr. Despite this, NCsoft is teaming up with Penny Arcade to produce a rather adorable limited-editi...

What's new with Guild Wars 2? photo
What's new with Guild Wars 2?
by Jonathan Ross

At PAX, I got the opportunity to spend some time with the developers of Guild Wars 2, a game I've been looking forward to for quite a while. The build I saw last weekend was a bit different from what was shown last year -- the core game is the same, but the skills and some of the combat systems have seen changes. I also got a chance to see one of the maps for the Competitive PvP mode, and got more information on exactly how that mode is going to work.

Guild Wars 2 has made our "Most Wanted" list two years in a row. Based on what I saw at PAX, it's still sitting up there.
