Borderlands on PC is playable online again, now through Steamworks

I know, I might be the only remaining person who cares, but Borderlands (that is, the original 2009 title) is now playable online on PC again. I recently got a few of my friends into the series via Borderlands 2, and some of ...

Wolfire's cool, experimental FPS Receiver is free today photo
Wolfire's cool, experimental FPS Receiver is free today
by Jordan Devore

Wolfire Games' Receiver is a first-person shooter unlike any other I've played.

Instead of a quick button press to reload your gun, here, reloading is a much more realistic, multi-step process that requires effort on your part. As in, you'll need to actually practice. Also, levels are randomized and there are creepy drones out to get you. Good luck!

You can and should experience Receiver, if only for a few moments, especially now that it's free through the Humble Store. Offer's good for today only. Be sure to redeem your Steam key by September 29.

This Far Cry 4 trailer is all about the elephants

Even when Far Cry 4 was officially nothing more than message-board rumors, I was all about the elephants. It's nice to see Ubisoft give the people want they want, then, by putting out a trailer that's devoted to these animal...

Review in Progress: Destiny (update) photo
Review in Progress: Destiny (update)
by Chris Carter

[Since a large part of Destiny is found within the raid system upon reaching max level, we'll be publishing a Review in Progress for the game over the course of a few weeks. Here are our thoughts about the live version.]

Destiny finally landed this week, and based off my initial impressions, my first foray into the world Bungie built was mixed. Having worked my way up to level 11 at that point, I was mostly experiencing the basic game modes and enjoying PVP quite a bit, but I was very disappointed in the story.

I have a better idea of what to expect now after reaching the max level of 20, and while I'm having fun, I'm still not blown away with what Bungie has given us so far.

Adam Freeman's Berzerk-influenced Hazard is pretty snazzy, also completely free

What if Berzerk were reborn as a first-person shooter using the DarkPlaces engine? What if the soundtrack were crafted by electronic music producer Wolfgun? What if you could be playing this game, right now, fo...

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is out of control

As previously covered, Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies is a real game. It's not out yet, but it will be out on Steam soon enough -- an open beta is scheduled to go live on September 23. I was already toying around with the idea...

Destiny's already made a ton of money, but you probably could've guessed that

Every now and then, when a videogame launches and does mega numbers, the publisher likes to toot its own horn a little bit. It should come as no surprise that this is the case with Destiny -- after all it was [...

Bungie has a lot to prove coming off of Halo. It crafted a dynasty that really put console shooters on the map, and pretty much everyone reading this likely has at least one great memory with the franchise.

Here we are nearly seven years after the developer's split with Microsoft, and four years after its last game, Halo Reach. Destiny is quite an ambitious project, melding elements of MMOs alongside of the tried and true shooter-RPG formula -- so much so that it has created lingering doubts among the masses as to whether or not Bungie can pull it off.

While I am enjoying myself for the most part on my path to Destiny's elaborate endgame, I have to say the journey so far hasn't been quite as spectacular as I initially hoped.

Of course we checked out Far Cry 4's elephant booty physics at PAX photo
Of course we checked out Far Cry 4's elephant booty physics at PAX
by Brett Makedonski

Prior to this video being shot, Max may have taken a double dose of the assorted pills that truckers use to drive 36 consecutive hours. I can't be sure. It wasn't my day to keep track of him.

But, the point you should take away from this is how realistic that elephant's ass (probably) looks. With booty physics like that, it's no wonder Far Cry 4 ended up as one of our top games of PAX Prime.

I could've been a pirate ship but I was a disco ball instead in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel photo
I could've been a pirate ship but I was a disco ball instead in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
by Brett Makedonski

As I sat down for my appointment with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, I had to make my toughest decision at PAX Prime. Running through Claptrap's capstone abilities, I was faced with the following dilemma: Do I want to become a pirate ship or a disco ball?

I wasn't exactly jarred by the wacky prospect. I mean, this is Borderlands we're talking about, and even more specifically, this is Claptrap. But, you seriously expect me to just select between those two like it ain't no thang?

I went disco ball. I can't say I regret my decision.
