A first glimpse of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut

Rising Star games dropped a little tease of Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut today, and what a tiny morsel it is. Following about a minute of quotes about the release from fine publications such as Giant Bomb, EGM and ...

Deadly Premonition: the cult of split-personality

Deadly Premonition is, by far, one of the most polarizing videogames ever made. In fact, within the survival horror genre, it has won an official world record for its extreme split of critic opinion -- earning a 2/10 review score from IGN at the lowest, and a 10/10 from Destructoid at the highest.

Developer Hidetaka Suehiro -- known better to fans as Access Games director Swery65 -- couldn't be happier with the viral success his game has enjoyed, and as Deadly Premonition gears up for its Director's Cut re-release, Destructoid chatted with him about cult followings, controversial content, and "feeling" life in a videogame.

It's pretty fascinating stuff!

Deadly Premonition listed for European release photo
Deadly Premonition listed for European release
by Matthew Razak

One of the sadder things in life is not having played Deadly Premonition. It's as if everyone joined an awesome cult that was really cool and you wanted to join, but the area you were in hadn't released that cult yet. The worst metaphor ever made aside, what I am saying is that it is sad to be in Europe where Deadly Premonition doesn't even have an official release date. Unofficially, though, HMV has just popped up with the first non-NTSC region locked release date with we have seen of 17-09-10. They also list a price of £24.99.

September is only a few months away! You could be discovering FK in the coffee in time for the holidays, Europe. While tipster and all around neato guy ProfessorPew points out that the aforementioned "region locked" version of the game had been listed before, an actual European release like this has not.

Listings on retailer's sites can never be trusted, but it's always fun to get your hopes up.

Deadly Premonition is blatantly better than Heavy Rain

Previously during the investigation ...

Deadly Premonition arrived with no fanfare, and even fewer appearances on store shelves. In fact, not many people outside of the hardcore gaming community (and not a great deal more within it) know of its existence. Yet, this $20 horror game has been in development for years. I first heard about Deadly Premonition when it was still called Rainy Woods in 2007. However, the game is older even than that.

We knew it would be a disturbed, crazy, very silly game, and we were prepared for more than enough cheesy, ironic humor. We were ready to laugh at it, in other words. However, nobody at Destructoid was truly prepared for this game. Nobody can be prepared for it. Despite taking its cues from Silent Hill, Clock Tower, Resident Evil and, of course, Twin Peaks, Deadly Premonition manages to be completely unique. In all honesty, there is nothing like this game. Perhaps there never will be again.

If you want some "FK" in your coffee, please read on for our full review of Deadly Premonition

Deadly Premonition is THE greatest game ever made photo
Deadly Premonition is THE greatest game ever made
by Jim Sterling

Deadly Premonition released yesterday, although if you weren't reading Destructoid, you wouldn't have known. The budget horror game launched with no fanfare, and I had to actually get my copy from under the counter at my local GameStop, because nobody thought to put it on the store shelf.

This, dear friends, is a crime.

Deadly Premonition is absolutely amazing, and to prove it, I present to you the greatest cutscene in videogame history. There is too much brilliance to list. The music, the contrived nature of the comedy, the facial expressions, the fact that the woman explains how a town clock works; just everything about it is perfect. Oh, and the sound on the video is not screwed up. The music actually is too loud, and that bit where the woman's voice is barely audible is part of the game. That's how fantastic this title is!

Our review will come as soon as it's been completed, but we kind of never want it to end.
