Playing Skyrim, Darksiders and The Crysis on a Razer Edge
by Jim Sterling

Your old buddy Jim Sterling has borrowed a Razer Edge with which to do all sorts of videogame things. You can watch me have a bit of a play on Skyrim, Crysis, Castle Crashers, and Darksiders II if you want. I try to make it interesting. A bit.

A more thorough write-up on the Edge will be coming in the future, but for now, watch me do playing about for a bit or something. If you want. You don't really have to.

Nordic comes away with Red Faction, Darksiders, and more photo
Nordic comes away with Red Faction, Darksiders, and more
by Jordan Devore

Rounding out the sale of THQ's assets, we heard earlier today that Gearbox was able to pick up the rights to Homeworld. Subject to court approval, the remaining groups of intellectual properties have gone to three different companies, as announced by the defunct publisher today.

For $4.9 million, Nordic Games bought some 150 individual SKUs including notable properties like Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, and Destroy All Humans! Additionally, Drawn to Life and its successor The Next Chapter went to 505 Games for $300,000. For its part, Gearbox bid $1.35 million to get Homeworld.

"In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles," said Nordic Games Group AB CEO Lars Wingefors. "A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs."

Can't say I saw this coming. If you aren't familiar with Nordic, you might be when you hear that it has published titles such as The Book of Unwritten Tales, the PC version of Alan Wake, and Painkiller HD. It's expected that the Bankruptcy Court will finalize the sale after May 13, 2013.

Top ten best THQ games: Remembering a giant photo
Top ten best THQ games: Remembering a giant
by Allistair Pinsof

When assessing a publisher's impact on the industry, we tend to focus on the highs rather than consistency. THQ was anything but consistent, putting out Nintendo DS shovelware, rushed licensed games, and taking part in one of the absolute worst games of all time with Mohawk & Headphone Jack. And yet, THQ occupies a warm place in our hearts. Those three letters represent some of the best times we had with games of the past decade, bringing unknown studios like Volition and Relic into the limelight.

Once we scraped off all the Bratz games and pet sims, we had a hard time determining THQ's top ten best.

Vigil Games' lead combat designer says his goodbyes photo
Vigil Games' lead combat designer says his goodbyes
by Tony Ponce

THQ has cleared its plate and sold off all its assets... well... not all of them. For some reason, not one company placed a bid for Darksiders developer Vigil Games, dooming the young studio.

Vigil's lead combat designer Ben Cureton decided to pen his own farewell letter (posted below) and share it on gaming forum NeoGAF. But whereas the THQ company letter ends on a hopeful note, Ben's is far more heart-wrenching, coming as it is from one of the talents getting tossed on the street.

He knows his stuff, so there's no doubt Ben and crew will go on to bigger and better things. For now, let him express himself.

(Thank you for the notice, Squishy3)
