It looks like the Mega Man board game is nearly done

It sure looks like a lot of work to create a licensed board game. After its announcement and Kickstarter campaign in July of 2013, the creators of the Mega Man Board Game are nearly finished, barring some final approvals from...

Review: Risk photo
Review: Risk
by Robert Summa

Typically, board games involving just dice aren't my thing. I don't like playing a game in which I feel I have no control in whether I win or lose.

Yahtzee is a prime example of this, while Risk is somewhere in between. Much like Monopoly, you do have to have some sort of strategy most of the time. However, because these games are so dependent on chance, those strategies often get thrown out the window.

With Ubisoft's newly released Risk for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this is basically what you get. You can plan and plot as much as you want, but if Lady Luck isn't on your side, then you aren't going to win -- no matter what you do.

Fibbage is a fun digital party game, even if you only have two people photo
Fibbage is a fun digital party game, even if you only have two people
by Chris Carter

I was randomly flipping through my email last week and saw a peculiar Xbox One release -- a little party game called Fibbage. Billed as a "fibbing" party game (the likes of which I'm sure you've seen before), this one has a small twist to it -- it's developed and narrated by the folks at Jackbox Games, the studio responsible for You Don't Know Jack.

It also has a rather unique control method in that all eight players use smart phones, tablets, or PCs to play, so you don't have to rustle up a ton of expensive controllers.

Guild of Dungeoneering takes us back to pen and paper days

Guild of Dungeoneering might as well be a board game. It has the look of a hastily doodled tabletop role-playing game, and it features tile-laying and hand management mechanics. Each turn, the player draws up to five cards, ...

Prodigy ventures to places most hybrid board/videogames shy away from photo
Prodigy ventures to places most hybrid board/videogames shy away from
by Darren Nakamura

With board games continuing to increase in popularity, it is no surprise that there has been a lot of crossover between that space and videogames. Not only are a lot of board games being adapted or reimagined digitally, but some developers are trying to merge the two, creating games that function in both the digital and physical worlds at the same time.

Prodigy is one such game, but what really sets it apart from titles like Eye of Judgment or Golem Arcana is that it aspires to be more than just a board game about tactical combat with videogame flourishes. It looks to be equally inspired by traditional videogame RPGs, with elements like exploration and narrative focused on as well.

That chess game with DLC is coming to the PS4

Pure Chess has already hit the Wii U and 3DS, but it's coming to the PS4 soon. VooFoo Studios released the game way back in 2012 on the PS3 and Vita, but has decided to start porting it to current systems, hence the new release date. It'll ring in at $7.99 for the basic version, or $14.99 for all the DLC. Yes, there's DLC in a chess game.
