Review: BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode Two photo
Review: BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode Two
by Chris Carter

BioShock Infinite had an interesting run, with player reception all over the board. Some loved it, some hated it, others reveled in its celebration of violence, some disapproved. It's probably going to be a long time before we get to debate the merits of another BioShock game again though, considering the fact that Irrational Games has dissolved, and is handing over the franchise to 2K.

So that leaves Burial at Sea Episode Two as Irrational's last hurrah, and I'm pleased to say it's a vast improvement upon the foundation that was built in Episode One.

[Be warned: there are minor spoilers involving Episode One below.]

Irrational introduces 1998 Mode to BioShock Infinite DLC

One of the biggest and most widely-held criticisms of BioShock Infinite had to do with all the violence. Many thought that it did a disservice to the narrative by being too over-the-top. Irrational aims to make amends of...

A free-to-play model was considered for Evolve

Back when Turtle Rock Studios was working on Evolve for publisher THQ, the studio considered making the multiplayer title free to play, senior producer Mike Boccieri told Polygon. Of course, that path wasn't taken -- the game...

Evolve impressions: How did we feel about the Kangaroos? photo
Evolve impressions: How did we feel about the Kangaroos?
by Max Scoville

A couple of weeks ago, Hamza and I got a chance to screw around in Turtle Rock and 2K's Evolve. Hamza wrote up his thoughts on the game right here, and I got to interview one of the developers about the game.

But how did Hamza and I really feel? Well, watch the dang video.

Review: Borderlands 2: Wedding Day Massacre photo
Review: Borderlands 2: Wedding Day Massacre
by Darren Nakamura

Another holiday is upon us, which means another Borderlands 2 Headhunter pack. Previously, we celebrated Halloween with T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest, Thanksgiving with The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, and Christmas with How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day. This time around, Mad Moxxi teaches us a thing or two about love with the Wedding Day Massacre, just in time for Valentine's Day.

The basic idea here is largely the same: for a few dollars you get one new area, two new missions, an easter egg or two, and new cosmetic customization options for your preferred Vault Hunter. Among those constants throughout the Headhunter series, the most notable variables in play are the choice of which characters to focus on and the dialogue and interactions resulting from that choice. For Wedding Day Massacre, Gearbox chose wisely.

Preview: It's four versus one in Turtle Rock's Evolve

Turtle Rock is best known for creating the Left 4 Dead franchise. The series was a big hit for Valve, and after a lot of tribulation over the years -- everything from getting acquired, shut down, reformed, and losing their last publisher -- the studio is back in partnership with 2K Games to offer another engaging cooperative experience in the form of Evolve

Evolve sees four players taking on the role of human hunters, while another player is in control of a giant alien beast that gets stronger over the course of the match. This isn't going to just be a straight up shooter, as teamwork and skills are key to winning a match.

NEW PS Vita coming this spring to North America photo
NEW PS Vita coming this spring to North America
by Dale North

The new PlayStation Vita will be launched this spring, coming in a Borderlands 2 bundle. This was confirmed today at a PlayStation media event in Santa Monica. It will include the game with six DLC packs (Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Psycho Character Class, Mechromancer Character Class, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and the Collector’s Edition Pack.), an 8GB PS Vita memory card, and will all retail for $199.99.

For this new model, battery life is now 4-6 hours for gaming, and a new LCD screen replaces the current version's OLED one. Its shape has changed a bit -- it's more rounded and a bit more portable.

It's the same one we saw released in Japan last year, and Europe earlier this year.

Yay?

Review: Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day photo
Review: Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day
by Darren Nakamura

Borderlands 2 has had quite the long tail of content for a noncompetitive first-person shooter. Since its release a bit over a year ago, it has seen two additional characters, four story DLC packs, two level cap increases, widespread release of previously retailer-exclusive content, dozens of new cosmetic customization options, and most recently, the series of holiday-themed Headhunter missions.

Like T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest and The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day takes place in a single new area and consists of only a couple of missions. Where Bloody Harvest was centered around Halloween and Wattle Gobbler focused on Thanksgiving, Mercenary Day features a Christmas theme. With it comes a very Borderlands take on snowmen, carols, and the spirit of the season.
