Guide: How to use the Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter photo
Guide: How to use the Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter
by Jordan Devore

Originally set for release in North America in late December, the Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter apps have only today become available for download from the 3DS eShop. (Europe, Australia, and Japan have had their launches already). While heavy network traffic pushed back the release last year, that doesn't seem to be an issue now, thank goodness.

We thought it would be useful to come up with a quick guide to the Bank and Transporter so you know what you're getting into, what with this technically being a paid service and all. The process of transferring your Pokemon collection into X and Y is quite a bit more convoluted than I was anticipating, and I was expecting a tedious process to begin with knowing Game Freak's history with these transfer tools. At least there are no minigames this time.

Nintendo sends word that two new 2DS bundles are coming our way on December 6. Both Pokemon X and Pokemon Y get paired with red and blue 2DS systems, with the combo priced at $149.99. The game will be pre-installed on a SD card in each bundle. The coloring also points to which retailer will stock each bundle, with Target getting the red one, and Toys R Us selling the blue one.

Luigi 2DS spotted! It looks better than the Luigi 3DS

Kotaku received some pictures of what appears to be a Luigi-themed 2DS. I want it. It's a simple white with green trimmings (buttons and so on) and a Luigi etched into the back. It's a lot cleaner than the cool, but busy Luig...

This is what it costs to fix a broken Nintendo 2DS screen

The Nintendo 2DS is a sturdy little piece of machinery. It eschews the gossamer hinges of its stereoscopic predecessor, and in their place vaunts a strong, unified, monolithic frame. Though abandoning the clamshell design mak...

2DS commercial reminds you it has some pretty good games

Time lapse: Nine Nintendo handhelds battery tested photo
Time lapse: Nine Nintendo handhelds battery tested
by Jordan Devore

In this pleasant little video from Family Gamer TV, nine Nintendo handhelds are battery tested including the brand new 2DS. The results aren't terribly surprising -- the 3DS line all kick off fairly close to one another, at around three to four hours of maximum screen brightness -- but those Mugen batteries come off looking like champs. I hadn't even heard of them before.

The video also serves as a reminder that the Game Boy Advance SP was a tremendous system, though that's probably something you all don't forget. Too bad they couldn't dig up a Game Boy Micro for the test. There's always next time.

Link Between Worlds: Hand-holding & Majora's Mask ties photo
Link Between Worlds: Hand-holding & Majora's Mask ties
by Steven Hansen

Lots of tidbits for you Zelda fans over the weekend. Longtime series producer and director Eiji Aonuma gave a long talk at New York Comic-Con, which you can catch above. Immediately after, he sat down to an interview with Polygon where he discussed changes made to the upcoming 3DS title A Link Between Worlds, which wasn't originally related to the classic A Link to the Past.

But we could've made this game, or a game, without having Link to the Past as a base. Because we have the ability to go into the walls, and then contrasting that with the top-down view, that was basically the kernel of the game — that mechanic, and then those two contrasting camera views.

I've been curious about where that mechanic came from; it's interesting to hear it was part of the game's origin. Still, why then develop the Link to the Past tie in the first place? According to Aonuma, it's all about familiarity.

We used a lot of the base material from Link to the Past, setting it in that same world to kind of deepen the entire experience. Because that would make it easier for people to get into, and easier for people to understand. But there's also a lot of stuff in it that's completely different. So it could've just been its own game — I mean, it is its own game.
