Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow hitting PS2 on June 1... yes, PS2 photo

Nearly three years after its release on the PlayStation Portable, Sony has announced that Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow is coming to PlayStation 2 on June 1.

The third-person action title was a solid portable game, getting some "Game of the Year" nods from outlets like IGN. The PS2 version looks to bring the same content as the original to the home console, with slight tweaks, mostly in the controls department. The game has been fit for DualShock 2 support, including the the use of the second analog stick. Visually, the game's developer says its "up-rezed textures and effects" for the PS2, as well.

No word on pricing, but it's not hard to imagine this being sent to retail as a budget release. With so many PS2s in homes, there's no doubt a few gamers starved for some "new" content. But if Sony's going to continue to release older PSP titles as console games, they might want to consider porting them to the PlayStation Network. I can't be the only one out there thinking this would made an awesome download, right?

Great game. I own it on my PSP, so I won't be repurchasing, but it is well worth playing.

I'm just waiting on the PS3 sequel now! That cliffhanger has been hanging for way too long!

I loved the original Syphon Filter trilogy, but I never liked The Omega Strain. So much so, I never really bothered following up on Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow. I heard this one ended on an unresolved cliffhanger, so I'm not sure if I want to buy into the new arc if that's the case.

Hopefully, this is to build up interest prior to an E3 announcement for a new Syphon Filter on the PS3.

I was just talking with one of my friends about how the original Syphon Filter was one of our favorite PSone games. Screwing around with that taser never got old.

Totally agree on the fact that I wish they'd release this stuff as DLC. Peace Walker would make for awesome DLC even if it was huge.

What I think is cool about Xbox is that they've released game specific DLC that's related to story content as well as online stuff.

With most of Sonys IPs they've mostly stuck to map packs and skins. I mean how cool would it be to actually have story related DLC for Uncharted 2 or inFAMOUS?

Now if only they'd port over Peace Walker. It would really benefit from the PS2 control scheme.

This made me think about playing a PSP Go with a sixaxis controller... how does that work if I don't also want to hook the display up to my TV? I can't imagine how or where I'd put the portable that I could get my face close enough to it while two-handing a game controller.

lol Move is bluetooth too... you could have motion control games on the Go if your eyes were good to make out anything on the screen while you're standing far enough away to swing your arms.

The PS2 has sold 22 million over the last 3 years and still over 800K units this year alone. It still has some relevance in the market.

PS2 just got introduced for sale in Brazil, IIRC.

We bought one last year to replace a broken DVD player.

The Syphon Filter PSP games are FANTASTIC, BTW.

Buyer motivation is irrelevant. Fact of the matter is that it is still selling at $99 retail and has an enormous install base. I would imagine that this was an easy port for Bend from the PSP to the PS2. Easy money for the company and keeps the name in the news.

That being said, like everyone else I'd rather have this for the PS3.

Well, least the Ps2's final game won't be a sports title.

I missed this, along with many other supposedly quality games simply because I hate the tiny psp screen. I just can't use it, my eyesight's not what it used to be. I'll be picking this up for sure ..and playing it on my ps3.

But honestly. Sony should just make psp games playable on the ps3. All psp games are downloadable on the PSN right? So why not make it so when we purchase a game we can either download it to and play it on our psp, OR our ps3 when we're at home?

If I'm not mistaken, sony doesn't get that much money from psp hardware sales, it's all software. So it's not like doing this could potentially kill an important source of cash for them. It would in reality, create another.
