Symphonic Orchestra announced for Wii, get your conducting on photo

Both the Wii and the DS have shown a trend of recent titles intended to use the consoles in new and innovative ways. With my DS I've already done face exercises, trained my brain, played with motion capture and stuck my nose up schoolgirl skirts. The last one isn't really innovative, but it makes me feel naughty and delicious.

Symphonic Orchestra has just been announced in Japan for the DS, hot on the heels of Wiimusic and Nodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra. Players will use the Wiimote to conduct their orchestra through performances from symphonic greats such as Beethoven, Bizet and Verdi. The chellenges will be set in illustrious locations such as Paris, Berlin and Vienna.

To the general gamer this may sound as abysmal as flute lessons from grammar school, but a specific type of gamer ought to get weak in the knees for it. The concept reminds me a bit of Trauma Center and could be really cool if executed correctly. It also seems like a title my grandmother would dig, which is cool because I like the idea of sharing gaming with family in a way they could actually understand.

That's kind of cool, but the music would get boring.
Slow down on the news jeez. ;]

I might get it if it doesn't become overly repetitive from song-to-song.

this sounds cool--but more importantly, what are you doing with your nose up schoolgirl skirts?

I've lost all faith in games that make proper use of the Wiimote

it always involves waggle...always.

STFU Nintendo and port that Nodame Cantabile game for DS

Also GYAPO!

I've been looking forward to something like this since the "WiiMusic" portion of the E3 2006 Wii demo video.

I wonder if the game will include "instability factors" like if your playing a grand concierto and OH NOES!

Youve activated the BEETHOVEN card, you are now partially deaf and are prone to fits of alcoholic rage.

and:

"The last one isn't really innovative, but it makes me feel naughty and delicious."

why must you tease me so Colette?

Trauma Center really is a wonderful game, probably the best 3rd party software for the Wii. I guess playing maestro could be very fun too, if done right. If Rock Band can be successful, why not this one?

And of course we'll never get this or any other orchestral game because the US market would NEVER go for it. I think that Maestro game on PS2 is proof enough of that.

Fuck you, Nintendo, and fuck your region lockouts.

I'm a big classical music fan. I'm hoping this one rides it's way here on the US-Import tsunami wave.

Mad Maestro was fucking awesome, despite relying on those fucking awful analogue PS2 buttons. So... I hope one of these games turns out good.

Hear, hear!! (No, that wasn't a Beethoven pun.) I definitely would love to have this game. Anyone who thinks that classical music is boring is listening to the wrong composers.

Eh, conducting seems rather...boring. Am I the only one missing the appeal here?

GOTY material.

Pity we'll probably never get it here, like WiiMusic.
