Hitler.

Mussolini.

Koopa.

For far too long have these three names been thought nearly synonymous within the pantheon of historical villainy; for far too long has the name “Bowser” been equated with evil, malevolence, and selfishness.

No longer.

Today, we celebrate all those things good and righteous in the personality of King Bowser Koopa, ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and caretaker of its denizens. In what may be considered a year-late companion piece to Six Sinister Things About Super Mario, it’s time to examine what makes Bowser not only a morally laudable character, but also a wholly sympathetic one.

Hit the jump, and prepare yourself to feel sympathy -- for the Bowser.

HE'S THE RIGHTFUL POLITICAL LEADER OF THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM

werewr

The vast majority of the Mario games, told from the perspective of Princess Peach and her political affiliates, would have the average gamer believe that Bowser is some sort of insurgent who wishes to wrongfully dethrone Peach and turn the entire Mushroom Kingdom into a fascist state. If you actually look at the evidence, however, the exact opposite seems to be true.

First, let’s look at political titles:  Bowser is a king, where Peach is but a princess. Assuming they both earned their titles legally and within the same representational government (which they almost certainly did), there is literally no way Bowser could achieve the title of “king” without either having been elected to that post, or having earned it through birthright. Peach’s essentially useless “Princess” title seems to come from virtually nowhere: princess to whom? If she were the rightful princess, we’d have met (or at least heard mention of) her father, the Mushroom King. Since we’ve never heard so much as an utterance about this character outside of the Super Mario Bros movie (which isn’t canon, obviously), it is therefore reasonable to assume that Peach awarded herself the faux-royal title. This, in itself, also suggests that it is Peach, and not King Koopa, who represents the confederate insurgency within the       Mushroom Kingdom.

If you need proof that Koopa achieved power by legal means, just consider the numbers game: for every one Toad character Mario found in the original Super Mario Bros., the player sees roughly five dozen Koopa Troopas, Goombas, and Hammer Bros -- all of whom would obviously vote for Bowser in a free and fair election. Peach, evidently irritated at the fact that her voter base seemed to consist of no more than twenty or so identical citizens, likely seceded from Bowser’s kingdom and, through a combination of propaganda and sexual manipulation, named herself “Princess” and declared herself the rightful ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. Peach knew she couldn’t beat Bowser through sheer numbers, so she opted to spin the politics of her story and make it seem that Bowser was actually the dissenter.

A ROMANTIC

erer

And yet, despite Peach’s treachery, Bowser’s main motivation for all his “illegal” actions still comes down to one simple, relatable, and absolutely heartbreaking reason: love.

Bowser loves Princess Peach. None of the games have made any attempt to dance around this issue. He kidnaps her in nearly every damn Mario game, and he attempted to marry her in Super Paper Mario. Far from being the heartless despot Peach and her ilk would paint him to be, Bowser feels very strong, profound romantic emotions toward Peach – a woman who, for all intents and purposes, he should absolutely despise.

Sure, Koopa doesn’t necessarily express his feelings in the best of ways, but can you blame him? Betrayed by the woman he loves, politically undermined, and left totally alone in his castle save for his soldiers and illegitimate children, is it any surprise that Bowser is socially inadequate when it comes to showing affection? He kidnaps Peach and curses her name, yes, but inside -- deep down inside -- he’s really just trying to tell her that he loves her, while expressing an overwhelming desire that she reciprocate his feelings.

If anything, the man is certainly determined. He’s kidnapped Peach damn near a dozen times, always being eventually thwarted by Mario and/or Luigi, but he still tries; his desire for Peach is so strong that even having his castle destroyed and his children flung into lava pits is not enough to dissuade him from trying to court the object of his affection.

PRINCESS PEACH IS A COCKTEASING BITCH

werwerw

If Bowser can be blamed for anything, it’s not his maliciousness (of which there is practically none) so much as his naïveté when it comes to dealing with the opposite sex -- Peach, specficially.

I used to think Peach was just stupid. In an older article, I said I’d never have sex with her because even after years and years of getting kidnapped by Bowser, she seemed to never have the intelligence to install any sort of security features within her castle, or even make any attempt whatsoever to prevent Bowser from frequently abducting her.

Oh, how wrong I was.

Peach isn’t stupid: she’s a brilliant, two-faced, evil, manipulative, blue-balls-giving bitch. She knows the only way to keep the proletariat on her side in the civil war is by constantly playing the part of the victim; as mentioned earlier, Bowser’s army obviously outnumbers Peach’s numerically, and so it is to her advantage to keep public sympathy on her side. She does this in two main ways. Firstly, she gets Bowser to frequently kidnap her; secondly, she gets Mario to save her.

Peach, like so many femme fatales, knows full well how enamored Bowser is with her, and the lengths to which he would go to win her love. She also knows how to properly exploit that adoration. She leaves the gates to her castle wide open, she keeps her palace guards totally unarmed, and generally uses innuendo and reverse psychology to trick Bowser into kidnapping her, time and time again. And why? So she can sic Mario on him, who, similarly cockteased through decades of false or underwhelming promises (“Rescue me and I’ll bake you a cake?” A CAKE? Bitch, I didn’t fight my way through twenty worlds full of armed guards and spikes and fire just for goddamned baked goods), rushes off to save her like a conditioned automaton. In saving Peach, Mario serves as an iconic hero for Peach’s troops, thus strengthening her army’s morale and keeping her in the political fight.

Meanwhile, poor Bowser, his heart bursting with emotion and his head clouded by breasts, is again made to play the fall guy in Peach’s exquisitely crafted, political puppet show.

Lady Macbeth doesn’t have sh*t on Princess Peach.

HE TAKES CARE OF HIS MEN

erer

It takes a hell of a lot of dedication to run headlong into battle, knowing you’ll meet almost certain death at the hands (or rather feet) of an obese minority, but Bowser manages to instill this degree of loyalty in all his troops. Quite a considerable feat, if I may say so.

Bowser has single-handedly managed to convince his troops not only to ignore all of Princess Peach’s brainwashing propaganda, but to believe in him and his goals with a strength and conviction which has not, in the thirty years of the Mario series existence, ever been broken.

I think, anyway. There could be some obscure third-party Mario game or an episode of the animated show involving a double-agent Koopa that I’m not thinking of, but what happens if I take that little piece of evidence and I simply brush it away with a wave of my hand? What do you have then? Nothing, that’s what.

Meanwhile, the “evil” goombas, to paraphrase the player’s manual for the original Super Mario Bros, are described as Mushroom Toadstools who switched sides to join Bowser’s army. Bowser’s soldiers aren’t slaved, or brainwashed, or even draftees; Bowser’s men fight for the Koopa cause because they believe in it, while Peach’s minions are but mere pawns in her grand game of cocktease chess.*

HEROISM

werwerw

Out of all the villains in the Super Mario universe, no “baddie” has ever joined Mario’s cause, or helped Mario out, so frequently. In both Super Mario RPG and Super Paper Mario, Bowser chooses to join Mario’s gang of hoodlums and nogoodniks for the purposes of saving the goddamned world.

Call Bowser petty or short-sighted if you want, but don’t forget that when the chips are down, Mario just plain can’t save the world on his own; he needs the help of his enemy, who (begrudgingly, I’ll admit) shows a great deal more heroism than any of the “good” characters ever give him credit for. Bowser is willing to put his life on the line not just for himself, and not just for his own army, but for the entire planet, Peach’s ungrateful dissenters included. Would Peach do the same if she didn’t absolutely have to? I doubt it.

DUDE GOT KIDS

werwerwrwe

He doesn't seem to talk to them that much and I can't imagine who the hell the mother was (illegitimate children of Peach, perhaps?), but it can be easy to forget that Bowser is, in fact, a father. It's fun to idolize Mario because of his bachelor lifestyle and carefree nature, but Bowser is a real dad with real responsibilities, who respected and/or loved his kids enough to give them each a separate castle, all to themselves.

ARGUABLY THE SINGLE WORST CHARACTER IN SUPER SMASH BROS. MELEE

When I said “sympathy,” I meant it – sympathy at all costs. How can you not feel a twinge (if not several twinges) of sympathy for Bowser in SSBM? Despite being one fo the largest and most ferocious-looking characters in the game, his moves are hilariously slow and ineffective, leaving him open to counters from damn near every other available character. Watching Bowser try to win a match is like watching a two-legged dog try to sprint: adorable, but ultimately depressing.

BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN

werwer

Nature versus nurture: are evil men born that way, or do they have evil thrust upon them? Up until the mid-1990’s, Nintendo fans could only guess at what turned Bowser to a life of kidnapping and misanthropy However, with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (a sequel to the other Mario games in name, but a prequel in actual narrative fact) we see an indescribably important moment in Bowser’s upbringing: his adoption by the dark Magikoopa, Kamek.

Before Bowser has even met Mario, Luigi, or Princess Peach, we see him as a baby under the protection of Kamek, who, oddly, looks exactly the same age as he does in the later games. Is he some sort of immortal demon? Or just a very, very gifted magician?

Anyway, Kamek looks into the future and sees that Mario and Luigi, a pair of twins, will one day cause a great deal of trouble for Bowser before flying off and intercepting the stork that carries them. From that point, Yoshi finds the babies and the adventure continues, eventually leading up to a large face-off between Yoshi, Baby Mario, and Baby Bowser.

This aspect of Bowser's development is extremely interesting, and brings to mind a scene from Shakespeare's Macbeth. At the beginning of the play, three witches tell Macbeth that he will soon rise to power, and his mere knowledge of this fact causes him to turn into a power-hungry murderer who fulfills his own prophecy. Similarly, Kamek sees that Mario and Luigi will grow to hate Bowser, but, in trying to act against this maybe-but-not-quite-inevitability, he inadvertently creates the first spark of hatred between Bowser and the Marios as he confuses Bowser into attacking Yoshi and Mario.

So, the question is, would Bowser have still become the enemy of the Marios had it not been for Kamek's parenting and soothsaying? Possibly not.

HE'S NEVER DONE ANYTHING PARTICULARLY EVIL

werwerwe

Okay, kidnapping, yeah, but Peach wanted it. Other than indulging Peach’s manipulative fantasies and occasionally detaining a Toadstool or two, what has Bowser really done wrong? His troops never aggressively attack Mario; they merely wait for Mario to initiate violence, and act solely in self-defense. Bowser has never killed, or even attempted to kill, anyone in cold blood. Hell, he’s never even invaded Peach’s portion of the Mushroom Kingdom, even though he has the manpower and moral superiority to make such an invasion both swiftly dealt and totally justified.

One may easily accuse him of mild idiocy, or slight cowardice, but never of evil or even anything approaching it: Bowser, as we see him in the Mario games, is merely a misunderstood, wrongly-demonized figure in an ever-escalating political struggle with the fascist (and notably, Aryan) Princess Peach.

So, the next time you grab his tail and throw him face-first into a bomb, or grab an axe and cut the rope bridge he’s standing on, remember this: Bowser never did a goddamn thing to you out of malice or hatred. After repeatedly and happily sending the sad, rightfully-elected protector of the people to his doom, maybe you’ll eventually see what I see. Maybe -- just maybe -- you’ll one day have some sympathy for the Bowser.

*I’m copyrighting the phrase “Cocktease Chess,” and I’ll make millions when I turn it into a full fledged board game.

Bowser isn't necessarily the rightful king - what if he took the throne in a coup de grace? His title and the mere proliferation of his soldiers doesn't give him legitimacy. That's like saying Hitler was king of Europe because there were a lot of Nazis in 1941. (Whoops, Godwin's law.)

His attempted marriage to Peach is a political tactic, not an act of love. Besides, who sympathizes with the creepy guy who kidnaps a girl? Blaming Princess Peach for being kidnapped is like saying a woman encouraged her own rape - senseless and brutal.

And speaking of his troops' loyalty, how much double-crossing could you expect in an army consisting of mindless drones which walk back and forth over the same territory? If Bowser cared for his troops, he'd try to ensure they weren't so easily slaughtered.

I'm looking forward to Destructoid's series on why the Medal of Honour series should be played from the Nazi point of view.

You're making far too many assumptions.

It seems that you're forgetting the fact that Bowser formed an armada of airships lead by each of his children, invaded seven distinct neighboring kingdoms and cast spells upon their leaders turning them into various helpless creatures, all as a diversion to keep Mario and Luigi out of his hair as he kidnaps Peach. In SMW he even kidnapped Yoshis and imprisoned them in blocks, threatening their very survival as a species. And Bowser's never done anything wrong? Don't kid yourself.

His title is most likely a result of being the alpha male of his species. Much like King Kong. I would imagine that his obsession has much to do with Peach's actual position. When you can't take over a kingdom militarily, as we've seen him attempt time and time again, the next best way is to hop in the sack and hope to make your way in filially. Think Gafar a la Aladdin.

And while you assume he is just leader with a population far greater than the Mushroom kingdom, we've only seen the Mushroom Kingdom from Mario's perspective. All Mario's been doing is fending off Bowser's army, so it would make sense that he wouldn't encounter many civilians in his travels. We also know Bowser is known to employ black magic, Koopas are derived from Kappas after all, which makes it entirely possible he could have altered the opposition's appearance just as he did the Kings of SMB3.

Once again, don't fall for Rev's propaganda. Bowser is as evil and badass as they come. Don't sympathize with Rev or the terrorists win.

allisonaxe:
I feel -- and give me a minute before you write the following statement off entirely -- that the manual to the original Super Mario Bros really isn't canon.

I mean, think about it: have we, at ANY other time in the series, ever been told, through gameplay or narrative, that the Goombas are somehow evil versions of the Toadstools, or that the blocks are actually transformed versions of the Mushroom Kingdom's denizens, or that any curse has been cast upon a king.

We don't get any hint about kings or curses or betraying Toadstools in the original Super Mario Bros gameplay; the only place we get these odd, contradictory plot details (as you said, the king never shows up -- kind of odd if the story in the manual is supposedly canon with the events of the game) is the manual, which seems to have been haphazardly written around the details of the game after the fact.

Flashman:
If Bowser had taken the throne in a coup, we'd probably see much more militarism out of Peach's army. Rather than just seeing them hanging out and smiling and waiting for something awful to happen (as we do in pretty much every single Mario game), one would expect them to, I dunno, rebel against their evil overlord. I

nstead, they seem more or less content to sit around and enjoy the new freedom they experienced after seceding from their former leader (as the American colonies were willing to do after throwing off Britain's reigns, but way more simplistic and with less racism).

In terms of Bowser not having a crush on Peach, we see (quite direct) evidence in favor of this crush in Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario, and so on.

When it comes to Bowser's willingness to put his troops in the line of fire, that's the thing -- they've never REALLY been in the line of fire. When Mario rushes into Koopa's land to gank Bowser and save the princess, he's running into KOOPA territory. The Goombas are walking around aimlessly because they're at home, not on the frontlines with the intent of killing anybody. Mario's attack comes as a complete surprise to the Goombas (who evidently have no method of communicating with their soldiers down the line), and to Bowser. Call him stupid -- he is -- but he ain't mindlessly throwing his troops to the breeze.

And no, I wouldn't blame a woman for getting raped, but I might consider it if, after being raped once, she made a point of walking down the street with her panties around her ankles with a large, neon sign hanging around her neck saying "RAPE ME, I WON'T DO ANYTHING TO STOP YOU."

ZekeThePlumber:
Don't believe the pro-Yosh propaganda. Yoshis are carnivorous, man-eating creatures who pose a threat to public safety. Bowser imprisoned them (note that he DIDN'T kill them; Bowser's tactics are much less violent than Mario's, when you come right down to it) because the Yoshis probably kept eating his men.

Similarly, he didn't kill the leaders of those lands and, as you said, he only transformed them so he could get closer to the girl he had a crush on. And, as I said to Zeke, there's a great deal of explicit evidence in favor of the idea that Bowser is physically and emotionally attracted to Peach as a person in SMRPG and Super Paper Mario, rather than simply trying to wed her for her power.

I agree with the character portions of your article. Bowser is definitely misunderstood and generally not that bad of a person, but I don't agree with the Peach and politics sections.

I don't think Peach is such a mastermind as she is just retardedly (sic) naive. Super Paper Mario is a testament of her good character as she displays sincere compassion and integrity throughout the entire game. And as far as cockteasing goes, I thought it was generally understood that "baking a cake" was a euphemism for something much more personal. I mean, if Mario is so stereotypically Italian, do you really think he would continuously bust his balls saving her if she didn't show some real appreciation?

On the contrary, I think she is so naive, she wants to believe in Bowser. She sees that he is not a bad person and wants to give him a chance, which explains why she refuses to up her security after so many times. Kind of like a family member that won't get treatment for an alcoholic because she wants to believe that he doesn't really have a problem.

As for politics, I see the Mushroom Kingdom and Koopa Regime as something like the Palestine-Israel situation, respectively. For whatever reason, they both claim ownership over much of the same land, and for the most part, co-exist, but cannot avoid conflicts none-the-less. (I know its not exactly the same, but you get my point right?)

Everything else; I agree. Bowser is just a family man with a crappy childhood that can't help but keep making some really bad decisions. But eh, such is love.

Anyway, do you remember playing SMRPG:LOTSS? There is a scene where Peach and everyone else is inside a wedding chapel and she offers to kiss the hero of the day (Bowser thinks he is the hero and Mario thinks he is the hero.) Depending on how fast you complete the preceding "Mini-game", you get to kiss her...or Bowser. The first time I played that, she made Bowser kiss me(Mario). Peach IS a cockteasing bitch. "HE'S THE RIGHTFUL POLITICAL LEADER OF THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM"
only in a parrel unviesre would this exist.but in the mario unviesre but in this world Bowser is NOT the rightful leader of the Mushroom Kingdom. his title comes from the fact that he's the king of the Koopa Kingdom, a title which he was not likely elected to. Rather, I'd be willing to bet that, since he's the largest, spikiest, fire-breathingest critter in the region, all of his minions/citizens probably acquiesced to his desire to be king.the kingdom he contorls is a militaristic dictatorship led by Bowser, King of the Koopas. The Koopa Troop wishes to take over the peaceful Mushroom Kingdom, and, ultimately, the entire world. Bowser is a dictaor who wishes to wrongfully dethrone Peach and turn the entire Mushroom Kingdom into a fascist state

again your dead wrong, peach is the rigthful leader of the mushroom kingom.father, he's mentioned in the manual to Super Mario Bros. in which Bowser invades, turns everyone in the mushroom kingdom into bricks and, breaking the bricks, and Bowser even gave the same "transform to an inanimate object" treatment to the rightful King of the Mushroom Kingdom, and kidnaps the Princess, who is the only one who can break the curse.the mushroom kingdom is a constituionally monacrhy not a dictaorship like the koopa kingdom.so peach isn't really the politcal leader the chancellor is the one with full poiltical power.

sure bowser likes peach, but if he loves her, wouldn't he try uh i don't know STOP KIDNAPPING HER AND TRYING TO RULE THE WORLD.in super mario bros His attempted marriage to Peach is a political tactic, not an act of love.Bowser's attraction for Peach is mainly physical and sexual desire cominbed with policital amibtion and the amibtion to wacth mario suffer.he in no way cares for perspective. He has ruthlessly attacked her kingdom, caused much destruction, and forced her to watch him nearly kill Mario, the person she truly loves, while tied up.some romantic

well maybe your forgeting that your dealing with an vritually indesrtuctble,5 ton demonic super vilan trutle that has many Powers and Abilities such as Breathing fire, shoot bolts of lightning, throw hammers with amazing speed, creating a hard-to-dodge stream of flying mallets,is very skilled in dark magic, poseses god-like strength, has fallen into lava, been blown up by 3 ton bombs, swims in acid and radioactive waste, took a direct supernova blast and surrived, has the power to create supersonic roars, can telport anywhere, has the ability to create massive shockwaves when he pounds the ground hard, can jump hundreds of feet in the air,and turn into giga bowser.

he has an almost unlimited supply of Goomba and Koopa soldiers at his disposal; the Koopa Troop also has an army (with tanks), a navy (with ships), and an air force (with airships).it don't matter how heavily defened the kingdom is.they will ulmatetly destroy their defenses and walk over the mushroom people.even our mitray can't beat the koopa troop.hell at this point we can't even defeat a bunch of porly armed insrugents while we have tanks and airplanes.we are fucked if he existed in real life.his tanks are much larger that our tanks and nothing in our miltary can destroy his bobproof, blastproof airships.without mario and lugi the unvierse would of been destroyed stupid.putting more defense is not going to made her any safer,it will only theraen more innocet lives and cost taxpayer money.so no more sexist bashing on peach and start to bash this stupid blog

"HE TAKES CARE OF HIS MEN"
yeah bowser takes care of his men by killing them and eating their corpses,Bowser has never shown any remorse to anyone,he enjoys killing his own mimons, and enjoys killing and tortuing anybody and polluting his wwhole kingdom.he treats his top minons kamek and kammy like crap.he even burned kammy koopa who is a eldery magikoopa.if he treats a eledery etile magikoopa like shit, imagine how much worse the common koopa and goomba has it.bowser takes care of his men the way hitler took care of the jews in germany.

"HEROISM"

sure bowser has helped mario out,but only for personal gain not genreiosty or kind heart."Bowser is willing to put his life on the line not just for himself, and not just for his own army, but for the entire planet" then that's why bowser almost blew up the universe.out of kindness and not for evil, genocidal, selfish, egocentric ambiton combined with a thrist for chaos, death and desrtuction.bowser did what any other real vilan would do if they where faced with a greater evil.let the heros fight it out with him and only when the vilan theraten his own self-interest he would destory him.

"DUDE GOT KIDS"

so did dick cheney,he focred his lesiban daughter to sign a anti-gay rights bill.hilter had kids too,and so did satilin, that don't make them any less evil.UPDATE since you apperntly never played a mario game or even do reserach on your subject matter and your blog is filled with so many innaccuaries and hypocritcal "facts".this is the same guy who uses his childern as pawns to fight his battles by mapuliation and bribrey.and as for peach being the mother.you have a much better chance of ryan seacrest fathering a child from peach,or bowser having sex with lugi before that ever happens.and if that happens peach would of either died from having just one of them and the mario series will be cancelled.

"ARGUABLY THE SINGLE WORST CHARACTER IN SUPER SMASH BROS. MELEE"

THAT'S NOT EVEN A FACT,THAT'S YOUR OWN BIAS OPIOION THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT.JUST BECAUSE YOU SUCK AT MELEE DOESN'T MEAN MAKE BOWSER LOOK LIKE A PUSSY HERES HOW TO PLAY AS BOWSER SINCE YOUR TOO STUPID TO PLAY A GAME LET ALONE WRITE A BLOG.The key to winning with Bowser is to emphasize his powerful spin attacks when fighting against more than one opponent. Given his lack of a vertical recovery jump, it's advisable to stay in the center of the stages and fight on the highest platforms. Stay grounded and force your opponents into corners, then fry them with Fire Breath, or slash/gnaw at them. Close contact fighting is definitely Bowser's strong point. If you want to be an effective Bowser fighter you're going to want to explore the best ways to get Bowser into the action. SECOND YOUR NOT EVEN PLAYING AS BOWSER IN THIS VIDEO,YOUR PLAYING AGANIST A NORMAL LEVEL CPU CONTROLLED BOWSER IN ADVENTURE MODE.IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE A POINT.AT LEAST PLAY AS THE FUCKING CHARACTER YOU REPUBILCAN GAY ASS BITCH

Like most other characters he has a running dash attack that will knock foes up into the air, but due to his slow nature most players will see it coming. We advise you don't attempt to use it too often from far away. An easier way to get into the middle of the action is to use his Down+B Bowser Air Bomb attack. Like Yoshi's "butt stomp" it delivers a fast and powerful blow to opponents in its path and is also puts you into the center of the action. Once there, there are a few very effective attacks you should use. If there are a lot of foes in close proximity the Down+A smash spin attack will send players flying in several directions. However, if the opportunity arises Bowser's smash Head Butt is also very mighty.

You'll note that Bowser is without a true uppercut. Instead he has a shell hop of sorts, where he propels his spiny back at opponents above him. Whenever you see opponents falling from above you, charge your Up+A smash attack. At high percentages it will send them reeling to KO. Also, unlike some of the other players Bowser has some fairly strong throws. If you're using him at the suggested close range you should also try to pull off a number of throws. Namely where he throws the characters above or below him, thus keeping your opponent close to you.

Bowser also has a unique Forward+B smash attack. At a distance he will lash out at foes with his sharp claws, but when at a close range he actually grabs opponents. Continue to press the B-button and he will gnaw on enemy's heads. Even more importantly, though, you can perform a whole other set of throws during this grapple. So get in close and don't relent. If you ever do need to take a break from the action roll out by blocking (R/L) and pressing left or right. You can often trick foes by rolling around them and then breathing fire immediately because your in close range.

"BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN"
-
"the question is, would Bowser have still become the enemy of the Marios had it not been for Kamek's parenting and soothsaying?"
yes stupid remember bowser already bossed him around and willingly want to kill anyone who got in his way.Kamek is the stereotypical right hand man; he does what his master wishes, without question. This means that if Bowser gives an order, no matter how ridiculous or difficult, Kamek will follow it.meaning that kamek was only following a prohcey and bowser was like some sort of evil demon koopa god.which explians why he can't be killed.so who is really the bad sign

"HE'S NEVER DONE ANYTHING PARTICULARLY EVIL":YEAH RIGHT
oh yeah then explian this long list of evil things:

-attemped to kill baby mario and baby luigi as a baby(yoshi' island)

- abusing his caretaker kamek and bossing him around(yoshi's island)

-He turns many of the Kingdom's defenders into weeds, and kidnaps Princess Peach and her seven Mushroom Retainers, the only ones who know how to break the spell. He then turned seven of his minions into False Bowsers, and sent them to guard the Mushroom Retainers in seven different castles. He personally guards an eighth castle where he hides the Princess. while sending his troops to invade the mushroom kingdom(super mario bros)

-raping and killing the real mother or mothers of the 7 koopalings.and no he didn't rape peach you idiots.

-manpulates his 7 childern to launch volent and bloody invasions of 7 major kingdoms with airships of the Mushroom World to capture the king of that area, steal their magic wands and with the wands, alter the kings' appearance.kidnaps peach again and attempts to rape her(smb3)

-kidnapped Yoshis and imprisoned them in blocks and fortess, threatening their very survival as a species.(smw)

-invaded her castle and trapped the Princess, along with many Toads in the paintings of the castle. Bowser stole the stars that protect the castle and is using them to give him incredible new powers. Bowser plans to seize control over the entire kingdom by building up his army to unlimited numbers. To do this, he creates his own worlds inside many of the paintings and walls in the castle and is using the stars' power to convert the residents of those worlds into monsters for his army. When enough of the residents have been converted, Bowser plans on using his built up army to take over the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom. also took enjoyment in causing havoc in these new found worlds and used the stars to give his troops power and create further chaos. To insure that Mario does not disrupt his plans again, Bowser seals off the doors in the castle with the stars and even created doors that only open with his keys. Unfortunately for Bowser, he did not seal one door and this led to his undoing as Mario was able to collect stars from the painting beyond this door and unseal many others. (super mario 64)

-muders a rival vilain named smithy to get his keep back, even though he needed mario's help.(super mario rpg)

-invaded Star Haven and stole the the powerful Star Rod, a weapon that can grant any wish of the holder. With this weapon in his control, Bowser imprisoned the Seven Star Spirits in cards and then scattered them in various strongholds and fortresses throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, lifted peach's castle to the sky,Bowser defeated Mario thanks to the power of the Star Rod, which made Bowser invincible. Believing Mario to be dead, Bowser throws Mario's tattered body down to the kingdom and abducts the Princess and all of the guests that were at the party. The guests were locked in the dungeons of Bowser's castle while Peach was put under heavy guard at her castle. Bowser used the Star Rod to create havoc throughout the kingdom and ravaged it with beasts and monsters loyal to him(paper mario)

-stooping so low as to use his son, Bowser Jr., as a pawn. Bowser told his son that Princess Peach was his mother and that Mario was a bad man who stole her. He urged him to take Peach back. Bowser Jr. took on the disguise of Shadow Mario, filled Isle Delfino with graffiti, and framed Mario(super mario sunshine)
- captures Mario, Luigi, and Toad.attemped to use the vibe scepter to cause chaos and destruction.attpemts to kill peach, the woman he truly "loves"(super princess peach)

-distracts Mario by sending a thunder cloud (possibly Lakithunder) to strike Peach's castle with lightning. While Mario was taking care of the castle, Bowser Jr. made off with the princess(new super mario bros)

-having traveled to the past to find the Star Children, which were said to have the power necessary for Bowser to conquer the universe. Among the many children he took or attempted to kidnap are Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong, Baby Wario and even his baby self(yoshi's island ds)

- attacks Toad Town using his fleet, destroying much of the town and freezing almost all of the inhabitants.lifts Peach's Castle into space with Peach, numerous Toads, and Mario still on the half-broken bridge.but Bowser sends a Magikoopa to take care of him. Bowser attacked Rosalina's observatory, which was actually the comet passing over the Mushroom Kingdom, and stole all the Power Stars and the Seven Grand Stars that make the observatory operational. With this new plan in motion, he began using them to control the galaxies, and wreak havoc on the planets. Bowser used these incredible stars to move his fleet through space, bringing his entire army with him consisting of Koopas, Goombas, Boos, and many others to aid him in the conquest of the universe. The loss of energy from the stars caused the observatory to go into a hibernation-like state with no energy to keep the Lumas alive for much longer. construct a galaxy reactor, using the grand stars to power it, and then use it to make the galaxies collapse upon themselves.[citation needed] This would give birth to a new cosmos in which he would use to rule and control all of the universe as a Galactic Empire that would last forever with him as its king. He also used the grand stars to power his army and grant himself even more power. With his army and his son at his side, Bowser spread havoc throughout the universe and kept each of the 120 stolen power stars and 7 grand stars under heavy guard.Bowser also sought to extend his already extensive army.Bowser consolidated several galactic races into his army.He created devices that were powered by the grand stars and used them to cause destruction within the cosmos.(super mario galaxy)

bowser has commited crimes against humantity for just existing,he is gulity of mass murder, politcal manpluation, attemped genocide, running dugeons filed with dead people, torute, disreagard for human life, illegal invasions of the mushroom kingdom, and of cousre kidnapping, atemped rape and attemped murder.it's more like hilter and Lady Macbeth doesn’t have sh*t on bowser. and Peach didn't want to get kidnapped.so fuck you you gay nazi sympathers and go suck bowser's dick.

bowser is evil stupid
dbmon maybe because ssbm and brawl isn't canon to the mario games.maybe bowser is much stronger than peach.even in ssbm, bowser is phsyically stronger and he's not even using his true power when the player is fighting him.much like mario kart wil,its a spin off game.mario is at least 2 times peachs strength yet can barely send him flying in any offical mario game without a power-up,also does bowser use his airships and soliders in ssbm?no because if he did,he will be unstopable.

another note dbmon, there no doubt that princess peach can fight in ssb games, she's one of the better characters in the game if you use her right.her leviation powers and her good combo srtikes make her a good charater.but you really can't use super smash brothers as a good argurment for peach being evil.every character has either been scaled up in power or scaled down.super smash brothers even give some characters moves they never use in the main games, for example, since when was captian falcon up to the point of smash brothers had superpowers?how the hell soild snake can lift and throw bowser who weighs over 5 tons?if snake could do that,he can body slam metal gear rex and just use his fist to kill rex can't he?how can ROB,a fucking attachment to the NES really fight a bunch of powered up superhumans,f that's the case i want to buy that ROB for christmas.how does the master sword harm zelda, peach, kibry and mario?aren't they pure hearted?
snice when did falco and fox fouhgt hand to hand in any starfox game?proof this blog is bullshit.and you are a total moron.

as for my view on her,i will be frist to adimt i'm a fan of her,i like all the mario characters espcailly mario and peach.their my favorites.you aren't too far off with the crush either, don't get me wrong i know she's fictional,i prefer a real woman and i'm already with a woman unlike the dumb morons who feel the need to overly sexualize a video game character and demonize her.she's not stupid, not dizty and not a fucking whore you patheitc worthless loser.why would an e-rated francihse make a whore a hero?if Peach is really evil, why does she have a pure heart?i guess nintendo is wrong and you're right.after all your the "expert".you own nintendo and all it's characters.i guess miyamoto is some loser hacker who like fox news loves to take things out of context.

i guess i'm a evil bastard who buys into the dreadful lies of miyamoto.it's not like he made the seires and his word is above that of a toatl loser like you.it's amazing how stupid people in this country can be.you can't even get video game facts right let alone a job

@bowser is evil:

Stop taking life and video games so seriously. And also stop believing everything you're told in books. Do some actual research on your own.

Agreed with Rabite. Stop taking stuff so seriously. I mean, this is the MARIO series we're talking about. If this were some darker series like Fable or Resident Evil, I might agree with you, but as such, that's not the case. Of course Bowser's going to be evil, being the main villain and all, but that doesn't mean he's PURE evil, like you're trying to claim he is.

For starters, he obviously loves her, or at least, has a big crush on her. Look at the first two Paper Mario games. He writes in his journal that he hopes she likes him, as well as gazes longingly at a photo of her. This seems like the kind of thing you'd do with a girl you're in love with, or have a crush on. Not some girl you want just for her beauty and power. If those first two examples don't it obvious enough, he showed some obvious concern for her in Super Paper Mario, as well as calling her his beloved.

Yes, he's attacked her kingdom lots of times, and has admittedly gotten a reputation which his made him very feared. However, has it ever occurred to you that it's because he was raised this way? The Magikoopas who raised him basically followed his every order, like you said. He never had any real parents. So, he basically only knows how to get things from order, and then from force. He really doesn't know any better. And where was there any prophecy about Bowser being some sort of evil demon Koopa god, or whatever? If you have any proof of this being true, by all means, do share.

Also, I highly doubt Bowser raped anyone. According to a very old issue of Nintendo Power (though in the U.K. only), Bowser once had a wife named Clawdia. I'd bet you any amount of money that this is where the Koopalings+Bowser Jr came from, and that something eventually happened to her. Granted, she was mentioned only once, and hasn't been seen, or even mentioned in any of the games or comics, but still. That's probably just cause Nintendo was too lazy to focus on her character except for one mention.

He's never actually killed any of his own minions, either. He's yelled at them, calling them idiots and whatnot, plenty of times, but he's never actually killed any of them.

I admit Bowser has done his share of evil tasks, and even seemed very evil at times. But at other times, namely in the RPGs, he displays a softer side, even if it deals mostly with his attraction to Peach.

You COULD argue that he IS pure evil, as his marriage to Peach nearly caused the destruction of the world, as the prophecy said it would (the marriage between an evil king and a princess pure of heart). But it never said the KING had to be PURE evil. Plus, in that same game, she seems to take a liking to him, if only as a friend. After she finds refuge from Bleck's castle, she seems to be worried about both Luigi AND Bowser. And she offered to stay behind as he was about to get crushed, when he was helping O'Chunks hold the ceiling up for Mario, Luigi, and her. And around the end, she didn't even seem to mind Bowser calling himself her "hubby".

Bowser is obviously evil, but he probably also has SOME good in him, and I think Peach knows it, too, for the reason above. Being pure of heart, she can probably sense it, otherwise, she wouldn't have treated him the way she did. It's probably just that Bowser has more evil than good in him, hence all the evil stuff that he does. However, Bowser can potentially change for the better with the small amount of good that he has in him. There have been a lot of villains that started out seemingly pure evil, but changed for the better as the series went on, and I see no reason why Bowser can't be any exception.

You REALLY need to stop looking so far into things, and especially treating your opinion like fact. I can see where you're coming from with some of it, but to try to insist that it's the ONLY way to look at things, is just dumb. Different opinions and different perspectives for different people.

Thank you.

Well, actually, I'll admit Bowser's personality has rather varied between good and evil in different games. But he can still potentially change for the better, as a lot of evil villains did. And the rest of my points still stand, too.
