Earlier this month, Danny Bilson of THQ mentioned in an interview that Red Faction would be getting a film treatment. Today, we get an announcement which would verify said claim. THQ and the SyFy channel announced a new deal today in which the Martian revolution will be televised, as in made into a feature-length television special. In addition to its status as a TV movie, the program will also serve as a backdoor pilot for a possible series.
The pairing will also be working on adapting some of SyFy's properties as videogames. At present, THQ is hard at work on adaptations of Ghost Hunters for DS, iPhone and iPad.
A Red Faction feature could be decent. There's certainly plenty of opportunity for a gritty, action-drama in the setting. And, I have to say, I'm often surprised by SyFy's original content, especially their series. If they can produce something half as impressive as Battlestar Galactica, we're in pretty good shape.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
HHAHAHAHAHAH!
You think SyFy is going to give that kind of budget to some stupid videogame adaptation?! Dream on, brother. It's going to shit bricks, and go along with the masterpieces of terribleness like LEGEND OF CHUN LI, and DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION.
While that is entirely possible, you cannot deny that it really depends on how serious SyFy is about making Red Faction work. If they're serious there is a chance that it can succeed. So I'll watch and wait and draw my conclusions then.
How many former Stargate cast members will be in it?
Haha, coincidentally, yes it is. I changed it for last year's Dtoid April Fool's Day theme (the Egyptian thing) and I've just never cared enough to change it back. (I actually really like Stargate, but a lot of actors from the shows tend to turn up in terrible Sci-Fi Channel movies.)
While I doubt this will be BSG caliber I'm still pretty excited.

I do recall one miniseries on the SciFi channel that was awesome: The Lost Room. Good series, one that left a pretty good opening for a sequel. Ah well, best left alone maybe.
Anyone see that god awful Giant Piranha movie? Caught it at the end and thanked god i did...that shit was bad...just bad.
However... the SyFy Dungeons and Dragons movie was far better and more entertaining than the big screen botch... so who knows.. :)
put it that way...
I watched the entire movie. Yes, it's horrible. In fact it was so horrible the Soup on E! talked about it. Seriously though, I recommend watching it if you want a laugh though. It is so hilarious. Mr. Beefcake dude, whatever his name is, Bicycle-kicks the fishies away. Bicycle. Kicks.
