SWTOR's first content update is Rise of the Rakghouls photo

I hate Rakghouls. Horrible little monkey bastards, they are. I welcome a fresh update that allows me to kill more of them, and it seems that Star Wars: The Old Republic is going to give me what I want with Rise of the Rakghouls

This is the first major content update coming to BioWare's MMO, due to release on Tuesday, January 17. It will contain content first discovered in a recent test server patch, including the Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege and Operation: Karagga’s Palace missions. Anti-aliasing and PvP bracketing are also making their welcome debuts.

Should be a neat little update. Who among you guys are still playing it, by the way?

I just hit level 20 and am still enjoying it. It's good, but I really want to be able to move around faster. Guess I gotta wait 'til I hit 25 for that, though.

Jim, what level are you? I'm nearing 50 on my main but I'm probably going to quit.

Around Alderaan the game turns into a typical MMO, especially if you play a class that doesn't have a good Act 2 story. Also, the legacy system isn't finished, so I see no need to start another character until it's added.

Still playing, but I'm getting to a place where I may just stop until Jedi Knights get some sort of buff. I realize that my healing companion is right around the corner (I'm in the 30s), but I don't really want to be forced to use a specific companion, and it's downright ridiculous that I need to use blow every single defensive cooldown and do my rotation and interrupts perfectly in order to have even odds of surviving two silver mobs or a single gold. Even packs of normal mobs can be insanely dangerous, and then of course the Operative or Assassin jumps me during. No, I'm not bitter! DEFINITELY NOT!

My Bounty Hunter, by contrast, is damn near immortal. The only time she died in recent memory is when she tried to solo a heroic 2+ that involved three back-to-back silver mobs (no time to heal in between), followed by a platinum boss, that she very, very nearly defeated.

I honest to god thought I was losing either my mind or my vidya chops until I saw the SWTOR forums full of similar complaints.

God dammit, the worst section of the game so far, I'm at 26, was fucking Taris. I was so sick of that world and killing rakghouls I almost quit the game. So of Fucking course, thatd be the first content update. Fucking hell.

Also, don't be surprised about the "early" update, this was a: ready before launch and b: to try an keep people around past the free month limit, which is 3 days after the contents launch date. This is all calculated, as will all other content dumps I expect.

And really they HAVE to do something, this game is so sparse on content it's a joke.

P.S. it's is unforgivable, UNFORFUCKINGGIVABLE, that players can't be Jawas. Little adorable moppets that they are.

never liked rakghouls, so this update is pretty meh in my eyes. pvp ranking system could be nice, wouldn't mind seeing myself at the top of that ;)

In addition to the lack of Legacy system implementation, that's another reason why I don't want to start another character - I don't want to randomly get a class that is under balanced in world PVE. I'm just lucky I chose a Sorcerer. I'm also too lazy to study up, like I usually do in MMOs, because I'm not excited enough about TOR's endgame to really care.

A handful of MMOs are like this at launch - I just wish TOR got it right.

I got bored after 10 days. Made it to level 30 by grinding the last 5 levels in PvP between playing the auction house with my crew skill scavenging/underworldtrading. Yeah, this is less fun than WoW at the moment, however, WoW was less fun than WoW when it first started.

I will give it the remainder of my free month and then re-subscribe when they add more shit that I give a damn about. Who'd-a-thought that SWTOR would suck worse than Starwars: Galaxies in terms of choice/customization.

@Magnalon: To my knowledge, the Knight/Warrior classes are the only ones with this problem, and apparently it's been ongoing since before launch. It's bad enough that the final boss for the Jedi Knight campaign literally can't be soloed, and a lot of the story content simply shouldn't be soloed. And while the final fight is overtuned, most of the content isn't. Melee force users can't put out enough damage to compensate for how frail they are without cooldowns, and they don't have any CC to speak of.

But you should be fine rolling any of the other storylines, all the balance complaints I hear from any of them center around PvP.

I hit 50 last Tuesday. Since then, my playtime has pretty much plummeted from what it had been. The endgame is really lacking; at least until my guild gets more level 50s so we can actually raid. Since a lot of the flashpoints are still bugged (like not getting loot sometimes and bosses that one-shot), the only viable thing to do is farm PvP. And I can't be fucked to do that, since I don't really like it. Started a couple of alts, but since I *just* finished leveling, I got burned out on that pretty quickly.
Looking forward to raiding/more content, though.

I'm playing it, but I haven't had all that much time lately after christmas to devote myself to 3 different gaming platforms. Having gotten this AND great games for my 3DS and 360 I'm trying to work through the console/handheld stuff quickly so I can devote some time to this.

I'm still playing. My Immortal spec Juggernaut is level 40 and I'm loving it.

To those of you playing a Sith Warrior- Hang in there. It gets better from level 30 on. You get more short term stuns and bettermitigation thatn just cooldowns. Backhand, insta-Force Choke, and Sonic Barrier really help. Play smart and use a geared DPS companion. You can also trivialize most fights if you use Quinn and his healing, it just takes longer.

As long as the updates/fixes keep coming at a good pace I'm happy. There are certainly improvements needed but the game at its core is fun and that's what matters.

I am still playing this and will be for awhile...was in no man's land for Christmas and New Year's and only now trying to catch up to everyone. Interestingly I am never picked for beta testing but got a Diablo 3 invite a few weeks before SWTOR dropped and haven't had the time to play it. Shitty timing, is shitty.

@khory: Those cc and mitigation effects are really nice, but they aren't much help for those who went Marauder or Sentinel. Our only real CC for any mob besides basic trash is our still-channeled Choke or Stasis, and a droid-only sleep effect that doesn't always seem to work properly. Dual-wielders do get access to some insane defensive abilities (Guarded by the Force comes to mind), but they have short durations and very, very long cds.

It's much, much rougher.

It reminds me somewhat of the treatment Space Marines got in the original Dawn of War: characters that were practically unstoppable in their original lore reduced to almost comical weakness. I can understand them being leveled for balance purposes, but my well-geared Sentinel having to wait three minutes between fights unless I've got a healer handy is fairly ridiculous.

Still playing it, but Rakghouls really suck. I quit all of the Taris quests and got off of that ugly rock as fast as I could. Giant walls blocking me from exploring, + stupid people whining about 300 year old bones...I don't get it.

I suspect Blizzard hopes or assumes that people will start to get burned out or tired of playing TOR about the 4 or 5 month mark, if not sooner, and they will be trying to scoop them back up with updates.

Can Bioware fix the UI problems and add content enough to keep people sticking around? It'll be interesting to see what happens. I'm enjoying it right now, but I could see that running dry in 3 months or sooner.

Taris is a planet that you have to have played KOTOR1 to not hate it, because its filled with references.

I dont know why people hate Rakghouls so much though, theyre large groups of weak enemies that you just blow the fuck up with AoEs(for Republic anyway).

@Pangloss

I think you just might not be handling rotations properly or specced well for leveling. EVERY marauder I've talked to/grouped with has just demolished anything in his way with minimal problems. In groups with a gold and a silver and then more though they typically go for all the non-golds, kill them, die, then respawn and get the gold.

I leveled as Juggernaut (Guardian) and I had pretty much no problems the whole time. I had a dps companion and I was tank spec for about 96% of that and had almost no issues.

I am still playing it, and so far i love it. The amount of content for leveling and the story they put in it is awesome. (for a mmo)
i never had to grind or stupid farm so far (which had wow a lot in the beginning).

i defintley will play to level 50. if i keep on playing after hat, depends if i want to play another class or if i find a nice guild to do end game content. assuming there will be good content by then.
Am lvl 32 operative.
