I hate Rakghouls. Horrible little monkey bastards, they are. I welcome a fresh update that allows me to kill more of them, and it seems that Star Wars: The Old Republic is going to give me what I want with Rise of the Rakghouls.
This is the first major content update coming to BioWare's MMO, due to release on Tuesday, January 17. It will contain content first discovered in a recent test server patch, including the Flashpoint: Kaon Under Siege and Operation: Karagga’s Palace missions. Anti-aliasing and PvP bracketing are also making their welcome debuts.
Should be a neat little update. Who among you guys are still playing it, by the way?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Around Alderaan the game turns into a typical MMO, especially if you play a class that doesn't have a good Act 2 story. Also, the legacy system isn't finished, so I see no need to start another character until it's added.
My Bounty Hunter, by contrast, is damn near immortal. The only time she died in recent memory is when she tried to solo a heroic 2+ that involved three back-to-back silver mobs (no time to heal in between), followed by a platinum boss, that she very, very nearly defeated.
I honest to god thought I was losing either my mind or my vidya chops until I saw the SWTOR forums full of similar complaints.
Also, don't be surprised about the "early" update, this was a: ready before launch and b: to try an keep people around past the free month limit, which is 3 days after the contents launch date. This is all calculated, as will all other content dumps I expect.
And really they HAVE to do something, this game is so sparse on content it's a joke.
P.S. it's is unforgivable, UNFORFUCKINGGIVABLE, that players can't be Jawas. Little adorable moppets that they are.
In addition to the lack of Legacy system implementation, that's another reason why I don't want to start another character - I don't want to randomly get a class that is under balanced in world PVE. I'm just lucky I chose a Sorcerer. I'm also too lazy to study up, like I usually do in MMOs, because I'm not excited enough about TOR's endgame to really care.
A handful of MMOs are like this at launch - I just wish TOR got it right.
I will give it the remainder of my free month and then re-subscribe when they add more shit that I give a damn about. Who'd-a-thought that SWTOR would suck worse than Starwars: Galaxies in terms of choice/customization.
Anyone that read a few opinions after they lifted their NDA. Or those that didn't buy into the hype, or both.
But you should be fine rolling any of the other storylines, all the balance complaints I hear from any of them center around PvP.
Looking forward to raiding/more content, though.
To those of you playing a Sith Warrior- Hang in there. It gets better from level 30 on. You get more short term stuns and bettermitigation thatn just cooldowns. Backhand, insta-Force Choke, and Sonic Barrier really help. Play smart and use a geared DPS companion. You can also trivialize most fights if you use Quinn and his healing, it just takes longer.
As long as the updates/fixes keep coming at a good pace I'm happy. There are certainly improvements needed but the game at its core is fun and that's what matters.
It's much, much rougher.
It reminds me somewhat of the treatment Space Marines got in the original Dawn of War: characters that were practically unstoppable in their original lore reduced to almost comical weakness. I can understand them being leveled for balance purposes, but my well-geared Sentinel having to wait three minutes between fights unless I've got a healer handy is fairly ridiculous.
Can Bioware fix the UI problems and add content enough to keep people sticking around? It'll be interesting to see what happens. I'm enjoying it right now, but I could see that running dry in 3 months or sooner.
I dont know why people hate Rakghouls so much though, theyre large groups of weak enemies that you just blow the fuck up with AoEs(for Republic anyway).
I think you just might not be handling rotations properly or specced well for leveling. EVERY marauder I've talked to/grouped with has just demolished anything in his way with minimal problems. In groups with a gold and a silver and then more though they typically go for all the non-golds, kill them, die, then respawn and get the gold.
I leveled as Juggernaut (Guardian) and I had pretty much no problems the whole time. I had a dps companion and I was tank spec for about 96% of that and had almost no issues.
i never had to grind or stupid farm so far (which had wow a lot in the beginning).
i defintley will play to level 50. if i keep on playing after hat, depends if i want to play another class or if i find a nice guild to do end game content. assuming there will be good content by then.
Am lvl 32 operative.
I'm loving Tatooine. It actually feels like a big planet.
