Hot on the heels of their first content update, BioWare have revealed their plans for the future of Star Wars: The Old Republic in a new video. The last update -- Rise of the Rakghouls -- was only the first part, and players can look forward to the final part of this set of new content soon. Along with that BioWare are adding two new PvP Warzones, which I'm personally very excited about. The Warzone PvP is fun right now, but it's a bit sparse.
The Legacy System is also being expanded. At the moment it's just a surname shared across all characters, but it will become a family tree, with members of that family receiving extra benefits. Like I don't already have enough reasons to make alts. Guilds will be receiving some work as well, such as the inclusion of a guild bank. Finally, the UI will be made more customizable, this is something that has been sorely needed. It's far too cumbersome as it is. I've still not played through all of the original content, let alone Rise of the Rakghouls, so it looks like I'm going to continue to have plenty of occupy myself with.
It is flippin' beyond me... that EA can dump several hundred million into this project... and make things like UI, and guild banking systems a last priority and call it being "responsive to community needs".... how bout a less suck AH system...
Don't think its the best idea for them to say that these updates are "parts". Just release them and let them be their own updates, or else people are just going to bitch endlessly (wait? they stopped bitching at some point?) that all the stuff in these updates should have come all at once, not in "parts"
They need to take a page from Trion Worlds here. Those guys have something that appears to be "update parts" but come off as just steady stream of updates, which makes for a much nicer set up when everyone looks at it like that.
Any way, the legacy stuff is stuff they said they were going to do for a while now, they're just following through now.
As for the UI, this is the first starter UI I've ever liked out of the box. I can see wanting to simply move some things, so as long as they allow us to do that I'll be fine with it. Again, Rift's UI customization (before any mods, which I don't have as much experiece with as, say, WoW) is a step in the right direction for basic UI customization.
The fanboyism and hate for their favorite rival MMO is similar to console fanboyism. I don't get it. I don't get why people can't enjoy WoW and ToR and whatever other MMO. But fanboys will be fanboys.
Bottom line: If you think the game is "falling apart" then you either a) Have never played the game and are a fanboy of (fill in the blank MMO) or b) an idiot.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

James Ohlen what the hell happened to you? How did you go from Baldur's Gate to developing this game with a straight face?
lolwut?
