Swedish retailers list Far Cry 3 photo

Two different Swedish retailers, Webhallen and the localized branch of GAME, are listing a new entry in Ubisoft's open-ended mercenary series, Far Cry 3

"Rumours suggest this time the game will be played out in Africa but with an even larger world and with a completely updated Dunia engine," writes GAME in its brief summary of the title.

There's no other news, but the have been rumors about the sequel being in production, which this retail listing would appear to back up. Given the relative success of Far Cry 2, it seems a given that Far Cry 3 is a real thing that's happening, but we'll have to sit tight until the official announcement.

FarCry 2 had so much potential that was squandered due to poor game design; here's hoping the next game in the series will expand on the formula instead of becoming another generic shooter...

If they can fix the ridiculous amount of damage that enemies can take and the respawning guardposts then I am going to be all over this

I hope they actually make it more like the first one, i want some monsters not random generic guys. Farcry 1 for PC is still the best in the series. It was scarier, lets hope the next one returns to its roots.

He's too busy writing the rich, deep and meaningful story for a Borderlands sequel. Seriously.

@alphaJC
I don't know, the monsters were the low point for me, I just wish they'd ditch the Africa setting for some Just Cause 2ish tropical island...

Far Cry 2 story

-Guy goes to Africa.
-Get's sick.
-Tries to chase down his target.
-When he finds him, instead of killing him, he becomes his puppet.
-The main character shoots himself or blows himself up.
-The journalist get's ignored, so whatever you did throughout the story becomes irrevelant.

Fin.

P.S.: Whatever they were smoking, i want some of it.

Damnation02 pretty much just summed up the game.

I'd rather take the cheesy Jack Carver then 5+ shitty ass characters that FarCry 2 offered.

Hell, if Naughty Dog could change Drake from the Uncharted series into a memorable, likable character, I think Crytek could do the same for Jack Carver.

As long as they ACTUALLY hire decent writers, why the hell not?

* I forgot Crytek dropped Farcry after the first one. lol ubisoft

P.S Why is there no "edit" function in this website? To prevent "edit" integrity?

Clint Hocking isn't at Ubisoft anymore- Far Cry 3 will just be more shovelware like the pre FC2 Far Cry console games.

I hope this comes true! I loved the visuals, the freedom, different options to solve missions, outwearing weapons, the constant embodiment(wounds), different characters to choose, the strategic fire, the nature, the weapons/equipment hiddeout ect. Many cryed about the long travels but i really enyoed every of them.

They only should change:
+pretadors
+repairing vehicles should be a qt event
-respawning checkpoints

Awesome. Played FC2 from beginning to end and loved every second of it. I think it is a misunderstood masterpiece. Especially frustrating were the very vocal community critics who only played a few minutes of it, quit because they found it too hard and declared it trash. An amazingly atmospheric, action packed open world shooter.

I've seen my roommate play through the game twice. Both times FC2 looked so uninteresting. The enemies were prescient and always seemed to know where he was.

Also every single character in the game sounded as if the recorded dialogue was being played back at 1.5x speed or something. It just sounded off.

I loathe Far Cry 2, i've tried playing it several times and all that has resulted from it is a lot of words i shouldn't have said and me shooting my own team mates on it. The gunplay was loose, the enemies were juggernauts with sniper shotguns, and you also got dizzy if you ran too much. Also, story was appaulling, there were some good ideas, it's just it's hard to think about them when all I can think about is how much that game wronged me.

I don't think that I've ever tried harder to like a game more than Far Cry 2. The setting and premise had so much potential. Since it came out I've tried to get into it probably 20+ times, and each time I feel like the designers were obsessed with ensuring that the player isn't having too much fun and turned it off out of frustration. There is just so much in place to punish the player:

- The level of annoying micro-management with a health system, medication for illness, gun repair, etc. Too much to monitor.
- The abysmal checkpoint system can send you back 20+ minutes for small mistakes on missions stifling player experimentation
- Lazy A.I. design by having them have hyper accurate aim, be bullet sponges, and respawning too frequently. Driving around the map becomes an utter chore when you constantly have to get out of your vehicle and shoot idiotic A.I.
- Shooting and aiming mechanics are terrible. Everything feels way too loose and inaccurate...

FC2 is just a complete, utter chore to play. No fun.
