Swedish metal band announces Saints Row PSP... huh? photo

While its direct open-world rival Grand Theft Auto has made the portable rounds, THQ and Volition's Saints Row has not. But that may be changing soon, as according to the Swedish metal band Opeth, a PlayStation Portable version is on the way. Wait... Opeth is doing PR for THQ now?

"We may not like playing videogames," the band wrote on its Web site, collectively hunched over a computer, hunting and pecking letters, "but we do like it when our music is featured in them! Makes us a bit proud even when it's a game as big as Saints Row for the PSP, and even prouder when the nice developer people show excellent taste by picking 'The Lotus Eater' for it."

The "Lotus Eater," in case you have trouble following along, is an Opeth track from the band's 2008 release, Watershed. According to the band, the game hits shelves "around March 2010."

Opeth isn't the only one talking about Saints Row for the PSP. Magic Arts Publishing is also saying that it has licensed tracks for the upcoming title.

We've pinged THQ for comment and will update if we hear more.

Ah yes, the PSP needs some solid thuggish drive-by action. I do wonder if they'll cut anything out from the main series for the transition to the PSP, as in customisation of character and cars. Hm, just rumour thus far :-/

Opeth is one my favorite bands, good to see they're good for videogame news as well as music.

I can dig it. Saints Row 2 was definitely more FUN than GTA4.

Hopefully the game will let you do custom soundtracks using mp3s on the memory stick. Because the Saints Row soundtracks tend to be decent but it'd be a nice touch.

Isn't it kind of bad having a metal band doing PR when they say "We may not like playing videogames,"?

The Lotus Eater = utter brilliance.

I can't believe they pulled it off so well live when I saw them a few months ago. Best Metal band of the past decade.

I could give 2 shits about Saints Row, but Opeth rules.

So wait, if they "love it" when their music is in games, why aren't they in Rock Band?

They're too busy being amazing at playing their musical instruments to waste their time on video games.

Opeth is also in Saint's Row 2 (Ghost of Perdition) if you guys didn't already know.

@Endstien:

Opeth are brilliant musicians. I saw them in ATL early on their US tour supporting "Ghost Reveries" and they blew me away. I'd seen their dvd (Lamentations) and thought they were VERY good, practically studio perfect live. I was really surprised they performed their new stuff so well and with a replacement drummer!

Moar death metal please?
