Survey hints at PlanetSide 2 coming photo

We're all pretty excited for MAG these days, but to tell the truth the ability to fight large scale wars with hundreds of people has been around for a while. There are plenty of differences/improvements/apple to oranges comparisons, yes, but if you had a knackering to go to war on a major scale the MMOFPS has been answering that call for years now and all you had to do was turn on your computer to game. I know, it's tough some times. However, if you are an MMOFPSer then you know of PlanetSide, which is considered the first game to truly bring the genre to the public's mind. It had its flaws (and evidently still does), but it's still up and running as we speak and still played by a decent amount of people.

If you are/were one of those people then you'll be happy to hear that SOE appears to be working on another game in the PlanetSide series. It's been six years since the original launched, and SOE has just sent out a survey to players of the game asking them to "play a critical role into helping guide the development and direction of the next hit Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter." Anyone who played the game got any good suggestions? I haven't, but off the bat I'd say it needs more Hammer (football season is here, so Hammer Day comes early).

This probably has a better chance of success now than the first one had back in the day.

Really? Do they really mean it? They can't possibly have the guts to really try this. Planetside is still the most ambitious online shooter to date. The gameplay of the game is pretty good, other than perhaps reworking some of the indoor combat stuff (which I'm not it can work at all in a game of this scale). What they need to do is find some sort of more tangible progression model where victories have more meaning, so people keep playing.

GOD YES!!! Planetside was the ONLY MMOFPS game that was great, in fact, I'd say it's my favorite MMO period. A shame they fucked it up with further expansions and update. I hope if they do make a Planetside 2, they'll learn from their past mistakes.

NEXT ON HIS CLog: "Hi Guys. Here's my first every podcast! Last night, me, Ertai, Angry, Shadow, beetee, at0m, and Kalarifik were chatting on vent about the Planetside 2.0 rumor. I didn't tell them, but I recorded the whole 2-hour conversation. SURPRISE GUYS! Click here to download the mp3."

NEXT MONTH ON UMLan: Here's a blockbuster review of this new gaming keyboard from LogiTech. Our reviewer put it through a brutal endurance 48-hour-straight test, comprised of writing 3 blog posts, 2 cblog posts, 87 forum posts, all about the upcoming Planetside 2.0 rumor and 57 e-mails, 12 two-page letters, and 127 twitters to SONY OF AMERICA pleading them to make the game. Wow, I have been thinking about getting Planet Side lately, but haven't because I don't like paying monthly fees for games. If anything, I'll try to get into the beta just to get a taste of Planet Side 2, but if that game has a monthly fee as well (which it probably will) then I probably wont get it =(

PlanetSide had lots and lots of moments that made me stop and say "that was SO DAMN COOL!" I would jump on PlanetSide 2 in a heartbeat if it took what was good about the original and fixed the bad.

The only true flaw with the first Planetside was pricing which led to lots of meddling and general screw-ups.

I hope they can do this, no one has even attempted to go as far as Planetside. All we've had is a bunch of posers that seem to trick us into thinking 'hey we're like Planetside' like Huxley and Global Agenda.

Yes, I definitely want to try a Planetside 2. Hopefully we'd get more cool stuff, better aircraft control, near-real physics for atvs/bikes, 3rd-person camera fixes, etc. :)
