Surprise: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequel will have new locations photo

GSC Game World’s upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title, Call of Pripyat, takes place immediately after the events in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. The story will focus on the inside of the zone -- a place where no one really wants to be. Pripyat.

And it at least appears that GSC is taking the recreation of Pripyat seriously. In an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, PR director Oleg Yavorsky revealed that Call of Pripyat would have several new locations, all faithfully modeled after Prypiat.

“We will present a complete set of new locations in Call of Pripyat,” Yavorsky said.

“This includes the Pripyat river basin and its rusty fleet standing still for over 20 years now, the Kopachi village completely buried after the accident, Jupiter factory located on the outskirts of Pripyat, the railway station Yanov, and, to crown it all – an entire district of Pripyat, modeled in its real scope,” he continued.

“I think Call of Pripyat will be the most photo-realistic, and hence, atmospheric S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game of all three.”

Whoa. Sounds serious. Hopefully GSC lightens the mood with, uh, dinosaurs or something. Yeah, that’ll do the trick.

STALKER:SOC had some of the best sound ever, it was an incredibly immersive game. Hooray, for now it has graphics to match :3

I picked up the original STALKER game for £5 early last year, one of the best £5 i have ever spent. The outside parts of the zone are one thing, but the underground labs and walkways are truly messed up and creepy. I cant wait for this new game.

Shadow of Chernobyl was an awesome awesome game. I can't be bother with Clear Sky or any other sequels/prequels it's more of the same really.

Sweet, new maps to play then? I got sick of how they didn't add any new levels in Clear Sky.

I should hope so. Clear Sky got a bit boring at times when I realized I was in the exact same places I ran through in the first game.

I wonder if the developers still put the blame for the Chernobyl explosion on the U.S. government. It's interesting how they want realism but then don't care about reality. (And, yes, the accusation was buried deep in their site a few years ago under a discussion about the history of nuclear power.)

As my PC isn't great for gaming (I could maybe run a game from, say, '07), I'm really hoping we'll see a console version at some point, whether it's this sequel or just the first one.
