I buy Pokemon games because they are really fun, maybe it's the nostalgia, but I just have a lot of fun with it.
Although if Sony & Capcom have a new Monster Hunter game on Vita's launch, Nintendo's efforts will be somewhat useless.
The meta-game is deep and constantly changing. I'm not a super competitive player, but a close match with a buddy can get the heart-rate up.
Because it's fun to me and I'll spend my money anyway I want to? Seriously that's kind of an odd question.
* Black and White
* 3D
* Re-release
BW is screaming out for the 3D treatment, I'd probably buy it again just for that.
...... When the fudge will Gamefreak air the banned Team Plasma episode??!! It's been 5 months since the disaster in Japan! Uggghhhh.... It better air soon.
Anyways, this doesn't surprise me. Pokémon is Nintendo's second highest grossing franchise (except for those stupid Wii mini-games!! Those don't count!!), next to Mario. And with Black/White as a supposedly "reboot" of the franchise, Pokémon will keep going on like Mario, still managing to be entertaining and fun even after a bajillion games.
@ryanzero
I guess you must be one of those "popular" kids at school? Tell me, have you played the 4th Gen games? How about Black/White? If not, shut your mouth about this "nostalgia" crap. Which do you think is harder and more time-consuming to be at an expert level; Call of Duty, or Pokémon? If you say Call of Duty, then get out of here. In Pokémon, you have to spend hours trying to find a Pokémon with the correct nature. Then, you have to fight a Pokémon for a few hours to get perfect IVs/EVs. THEN, you fight another Pokémon for hours to increase another of his stats to get perfect IVs/EVs. Then, you have to go breed it to guarantee that your Pokémon is at a competitive level... And rinse and repeat for the other 5 members in your team. It's way more difficult than it sounds.
Dammit. I hate it when people say Pokémon is for kiddies or that they only buy it for nostalgia. They're worse than Fox News. (that makes sense, does it?)
...That doesn't sound fun at all. Having to grind to find the correct Pokemon isn't challenging, that's called tedium. I'd rather play a game where I can actually have fun while getting better, and where my skill is determined ONLY by my own skill, not how much time I've spent grinding my Pokemon team into the best team. This stuff is why I've never understood why people like Pokemon.
Nostalgia has nothing to do with it. The old games (Red, blue, ect) just aren't fun anymore. They aren't as complex and the whole system of putting your Pokemon into the in-game PC takes a million years. I'll never, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever play a pre Ruby/Sapphire game again.
That sounds awesome, but I've got one EVEN better:
Remake of Pokemon Gen I - V
*Every handheld Pokemon game remade in crisp 3D, and by 3D I mean textures and character models (though sprites can be turned on and off at will via the options menu).
*Every Pokemon available for capture. with trainers picking their own starter from any region they want.
*All music fully remastered, with voice overs from the VA of the Pokemon anime (Japanese and English both avilable)
*All of this on one cartridge
I'll call it Pokemon Generations
You're welcome Nintendo.
Chill.
Well that's great, pokemon is an all arround awesome franchise and I want it to keep its place in this industry, so many great moments I had with the games or the anime when I was a wee lad.
And I'm a 21 year old totally non-virgin with a social life.
LET'S GET IT DONE, NO REGRETS!
Well, yeah it's tedium at first. Everything is tedium, boring, and whatnot the first time you do it. However, once you finally get a team you like, and compete, you get a feeling of accomplishment. Try playing competitively, or at least a match with a friend, using the Pokémons you trained. It's an exciting feeling when you actually win, and you want to do it again.
@Noir and those Squirtle lovers
Pfffttt... It's all about Hydreigon!! Who doesn't love that Snake-a blossomed head-Dragon-Hydra-six winged like Giratina-head shaped arms-weird feet-tank thing of a Pokémon??
.... Nazis and Gingers, that's who!!

You should have to work to get to the fun part, games should be fun from the get-go. I don't understand this design philosophy behind Japanese games. I already have to work during other aspects of my life, when I get a chance to have some free-time and want to play a video game I want to have fun, not start working even more.
@Gaidenrider
Your comment makes absolutely no sense. I don't like most JRPGs, but there's a few I do enjoy. The JRPGs I like don't force you to grind to get good enough to progress, you level up enough naturally as you play the game. And I have no idea how that Call of Duty comment fits in with my post. Also thanks for calling me a bitch just because I stated my opinion in a completely polite manner, and that opinion didn't match up with yours.
Destructoid really needs to let you edit your posts.
I personally don't play competitively (yet) so I don't do all that tedious stuff. You don't have to work hard to be good at Pokemon. It's fun and doesn't require too much work. Why else would it be do popular with kids?
With type/move matching paying a much larger role in the game than just leveling up, you could potentially beat the REAL end game boss using a bunch of Level 1 Pokemon and some serious thought in move usage.
That's the beauty of Pokemon, its as deep as you want it to be
Looking for something simple? balance out what types of pokemon will be in your team "water, electric, physic etc" and what moveset would be best for strategy.
Looking for something complex and in depth? Go into Natures of pokemon, EV training and stat boosting
This wide level of appeal is something I haven't seen in any other RPG; hell, any other GAME.
That was back in '98. Thirteen years later, still selling boatloads.

You never played Pokémon before??!! There's things in life that you should and should not do when you are a gamer... And one of those "do"s is play Poké motherf@cking mon!!!!!!! *rages* You call yourself a gamer, yet you've never played Pokémon??!! Arrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! *ends rage and hyperventilates*
@Saiyaman1
Something tells me that while you are a fan of Pokémon, you aren't really in the "competitive" scene. Tell me, can you REALLY win a competitive match against a player with all UBER Pokémons (Garchomp, Tyranitar, Ferrothorn, Kyogre, Blissey, DW Espeon, etc) with normal trained Pokémons? I mean, REALLY? You either play for fun, or you play against people who do not have IV/EV/perfect Pokémons. The ONLY way to win against a real UBER or OU competitive match is if you IV/EV train your Pokémon, then breed them to get their egg moves and retain their parents' stats, while also keeping the nature. If you say otherwise, then you are lying.
@Taku128
I did not say you need to do EV/IV to have fun in Pokémon. All I mean was that Pokémon is not as simple as most people say it is, and that to really enter the competitive scene and win, you need to use that complicated method to get the strongest Pokémon possible. You can still play Pokémon without perfect Pokémons, but if you play online against someone with a scarfed Garchomp, Blissey, or whatever, and you have a normal, say Hydreigon, and it's not equipped with an item, then don't expect to win at all.
You know what, go to Serebii or any other Pokémon forums, and reply that Pokémon training is so easy a caveman can do it, and you'll probably get a bajillion hatemails in just 0.1 of a second.
You do realize you're playing a nearly completely different game from basically the rest of us, right? You're playing competitive Pokemon, that's totally acceptable...you grind, you train, you fight others, you win, you make friends, participate in a commmunity, and feel accomplished.
You are nerding out right now and mentioning stuff most of us have little clue or interest. Most of us play Pokemon very simply: Start quest, catch Pokemon along the way,beat gym leaders, beat elite four, catch more pokemon if addicted, trade pokemon if friends want to.
So chill out dude, this is not a Pokeforum we are casuals here in terms of Pokemon. I could easily rant along about Street Fighter hardcore-ness in the competitive scene but I don't, especially here. Keep the inner elitism in a humble place.
That's just what I mean. That's the only thing non-hardcore pokemon fans do. They just do the basic catch, battle gyms, collect, etc., and that's it. They're done. Then, when a new news is posted about Pokémon, those same people are like "what? People still play Pokémon? What's so special about them? You just catch and fight. It's all about CoD and Rock Band and League of Legends!!". They don't even try to dig deep into Pokémon to see just how complicated and complex it really is.
