Surprise! Nintendo says it might not satisfy Wii demand this Christmas photo

Now isn't that a real shocker? Another Christmas has rolled around, and Nintendo has once again stated that it may not be able to meet demand, despite production being at an all-time high.

"Nintendo has continually raised the production levels of the Wii hardware," stated Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. "We're now producing 2.4 million units a month worldwide. Last year, we made 1.6 million a month. So we've made a 33% increase."

You can trust that Reggie of all people has certainly beefed up the production, but it seems that the gravy boat just isn't big enough and there is plenty of meat to the rumors that the Wii is hard to find. Let's not mince our words here -- if you go looking for a Wii, chances are you won't find a sausage.

I wonder how many more years this will happen. It's actually quite astounding to think that the Wii is still not able to meet demand, given how short the attention span of the mainstream audience usually is. Nintendo is pumping out consoles at a rate of 50% more than usual, but it's clearly preparing for another wave of shortages. If you're after a waggle box yourself, our advice is that you get in quick.

Reggie's advice is that you steak out your local EB Games.

I think they are scared, they see the state of the economy, a very weak holidays ahead. And this is a corporation known for playing safe, over the last year they didnt want to increase production because they knew that a weak holidays were on the forecast.
Still, I dont think anyone thought of how bad the holidays are going to be.

Funny our store has 45 Wii's in the back and we are the best in our area. Not only that when our Wii Rep came in she told us that Nintendo will have Wii's every where this Christmas. I think Nintendo is lying, maybe they should make this shit up when it comes to their games. Game sales have gone down so much for the Wii, most new third party titles we'll only get 2 to 4 copies.

Meat-flavored Wii's will be the new hotness once the buying craze has subsided.

With the lack of games I dont think it will be a problem. SOmething tells me that angry bored gamers will up the used wii supply by 500%!

Yeah wtf is with Reggie's stats. That's a 50% increase from last year, not 33%.

Also, meat.

Woo hoo! This means I can sell my second hand Wii for at least what I paid for it... if Animal Crossing Wii doesn't totally stop me from doing that.

There's a term for what Nintendo is attempting (and probably succeeding at, thanks to stupid parents/consumers) here: self-fulfilling prophecy. They announce that they're probably not going to be able to meet the demand, so panic-stricken parents run out and buy systems just in case the demand isn't met. Then, as a result, the demand becomes higher than the supply, and alas, there aren't enough consoles. Nintendo has really begun to piss me off as of late.

"They announce that they're probably not going to be able to meet the demand, so panic-stricken parents run out and buy systems just in case the demand isn't met."

Isn't that exactly what Sony tried to do last week? The thing is its true for Nintendo, and Sony is the one trying to create artificial demand for the PS3. Why the hell would Sony have a shortage problem? If Sony couldn't of made enough systems over the past year to meet demand this holiday season than its they're own fault. Because no one was buying tons of them all year long now. Nintendo selling 2.4 million a month is outstanding yet people try, and come up with every pathetic excuse in the book as to why it doesn't count.

Its a fad, its just parents buying it, its artificial demand. Who the hell cares how Nintendo is selling them the fact is there getting sold just the same so at least give Nintendo some credit for that. Who cares who's buying them its all money to Nintendo so they don't care who pays the $250 for it. People hating Nintendo for being a success is just retarded. All of a sudden Nintendo went from worst to first, and now they're considered the "Evil Empire" like Sony was for the past two generations. People just love to hate anything that's on top!
