Quantcast

Lasers and explosions, wicked weird spacecrafts and the final frontier -- MMO Star Trek Online is to have all of these things. Not that we didn’t expect an ST licensed MMO to possess such elements. We mention them because it’s hard to note anything other than surface-level stuff from the video above.

It's our fault, really. We withdrew from Klingon 311 because of, uh, the stomach flu. And our grandfather died, too. Oh yeah -- also, our house caught on fire. We swear.

For those of you who want a bit of a clue, here’s this: the trailer has been dubbed “Belly of the Beast” by Cryptic Studios and publisher Atari. Apparently, it has something to do with peace turning to chaos. Fast-like, with lasers and stuff.

For a better idea of what the MMO is all about -- if this video tickled your ST sensibilities -- take a gander at our preview. Game looks neat, and might have a character generator powerful enough to create a great Brad Nicholson.

Is there an event where you get to escape the burning hulk of your ship by crawling over the charred remains of your former crew?

I keep saying that STO has a marketing team that just doesn't get it. Star Trek fans would be interested in the game because of the meat of it, not the flash. They're glossing over the customization, officer skills and tactics that make the game more than flying towards your enemy while you hold left mouse. It's why I'm as excited for this game as I am but Crytic's marketing team is flat out refusing to show it.

Somehow, this just might be the first MMO I'll ever play. This just might be the only way to pull off a satisfying Star Trek game... No offense to any other Star Trek game, but I think my main attraction would be travelling through space to different galaxies. Even the on-ground element sounds enticing.

But damned that I don't have a gaming PC...

@Pheonixavatar: Its not suprising. This is cryptic studies. The guys who managed to be outdone on all their fancy features they boasted Champions had by the game they tried to abandon to the wolves years ago, City of heroes. The vast majority of cryptic is clueless
