I will be very very happy for anything in the Mother series that sees a new US release. We've been screwed over for FAR too long
So, what's SG's track record for getting these things right? I haven't been keeping track, but my sense is that it's not very good. I'm not getting my hopes up until Nintendo announces it.

I'm extremely doubtful about Kane and Lynch 2. The game flopped, and cost Eidos a LOT of customer trust and loyalty. IO better be working on Hitman 5 or Freedom Fighters 2 if they know what's good for them. *shakes fist*

Mother 1 + 2 = 3 for DS. Make all of them ports, please!
Playing Mother 3 and not being able to understand the dialog really sucks. It's the only way I can play it now, and it still pretty fun, but so much of the appeal of the series is the ridiculous things told to you by NPCs. The game just has so much personality, which I am missing out on by playing it in Japanese.

Ye Gods I hope so. And it better not turn into vaporware like Earthbound 64(Which I am still pissed off to this day about not getting. Curse you Nintendo!).
If you read SurferGirl's Earthbound sentence, its horribly misleading and has people thinking she's predicting something truly unbelievable, being a new stateside Earthbound/Mother. The simplest explanation is almost always the correct one - Earthbound is coming to the Virtual Console. That's it.
There's no other reason Nintendo would release an Earthbound title outside of Japan - as painful as it is to say - other than the original because it costs so little to port a title to the VC and they just aren't willing to spend money on a game that may not sell enough to justify the time, energy and money put into it. If that sells a ton and gives the franchise viable legs, then I'd say the chances of seeing something new (even if its just to us) in the franchise coming over here (or out at all) goes up.

@wannabepunktony; if it were for either, my guess would be Wii would result in a VC, but there is a huge market for it on the DS. The main thing I'm referencing here is the fact they are bringing Kirby Superstar to the DS; both would be games that the DS market would eat up and sell millions of copies of just in their nature.

I would love Nintendo to release a Mother/Earthbound collection so I hope this is true. Although I hear about it happening every year and it never does
It is coming for Virtual Console, that's not news. Based on those sales, they might bring out Mother 3 officially.
The coolest thing would be a Mother 1-3 pack on a DS cartridge. Not likely knowing Nintendo, but it'd be sweet.
