Super Street Fighter IV in arcades? Don't rule it out yet photo

Hey, remember when Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono informed gamers that there won’t be an arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV? Well, there may still be some hope for arcade fans. I spoke with Seth Killian, Senior Manager at Capcom and Street Fighter guru, at a press event on Wednesday, and when I asked him about the possibility of SSFIV in arcades, the first thing out of his mouth was, “That’s a complicated football of a question.” (A sports reference! I was hooked immediately.)

Killian pointed out that an arcade version is “not very relevant” for America, though he quickly followed that up by noting that he has many friends who run arcades here. But there’s been an outcry, among Japanese fans in particular, for SSFIV in arcades. Killian hinted at a debate inside Capcom, as well as a possible ideological shift at the company, saying that an arcade version of the game “has a lot more to do with what’s going on internally,” but offering a sliver of hope: “We’re not ruling it out yet.”

And for the record, Killian is rooting for it: “I would love to see it; that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. More to be said on that front, I hope.” So keep voicing your opinion, folks -- in this case, you definitely don’t want to STFU.

I’ll have much more on Super Street Fighter IV coming up next week, including a (hands-off) preview, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hey, Namco did it with T6:BR and they were doing fine, better even. I think they should really let SSFIV out at the arcades.

They can't release it already. The last japanese blog for it (which was today) was translated by a member on SRK and they've just now started work on the character select screen. And the build that was at the NYC fight club they held for SSFIV and atsunoko vs Capcom only had training mode in it running on dev units.

Considering it's just a PC in a cab, I'm not sure why they can't just upgrade the existing SF IV machines to this...

@Wedge:
Seriously, since it runs on a Taito TypeX2 PC, all that is needed for a new game to be installed is a simple hard drive swap.

The sooner they announce an AC version, the happier I'll be.

Personally, I like to see all fighters arcade tested before release to consoles. It doesn't mean that in has to come out here in the scant few arcades left in the States, but I do like to hear it was put through the ropes and tweaked based off data they collected.

Namco used to do that, but now they just pander to the people that want it on consoles as soon it gets out.

Go on, tell me how online versus play is the same as playing against someone in the arcade and that the data can be collected the same way. I guess that's why it took Namco three tries since Soul Calibur II to get it right with Broken Destiny while Virtua Fighter 5 and SFIV get it right the first console release because they had arcade versions to build off of.

Wedge, since unlike the Taito version being ported to 360s and then eventually PCs, it's being developed on 360 and PS3 devkits first, then maybe being ported to arcade and PC.

It would be a huge show of faith in their hardest-of-core fanbase. I think it's a great move to make.

@Squishy

Since it is built on the original SFIV engine, no it is not built for the consoles first really. Once they finish the game, all they'd have to do in arcades is replace the software in the machines and swap out the artwork.
