Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix almost dumped, also has a long name

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix almost dumped, also has a long name photo

In an early stage of development, designers for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix were worried that the title could be canned. David Sirlin, lead designer of the remade and optimized downloadable title, told VideoGamer that the amount of art assets tossed aside from the start was enough to make the project feel doomed. He called it an “unspoken” sentiment among artists, but said that external pressure on Capcom may have given the title more time.

From the interview:

It [cancellation] felt the most possible during that first phase during the art that we had to throw away. It was unspoken but everyone just knew it that if that art wasn't going to work out then maybe they [Capcom] were going to cancel the whole thing. And turns out they didn't. I wonder if there was just so much pressure from the outside that kept them going, I mean from the world of gaming.
Silva also said that UDON, the studio responsible for looking over all the art, were “worried,” but had “a lot of foresight ...” in regards to the project’s success. Silva didn’t mention if the artists at UDON had ESP or any telekinetic abilities. It’s a shame too, because I’m dying to know these things.

I'm probably one of the few people who REALLY dislike the art direction they went with for this.

SF2 was a great game on the SNES for me, but I am not interested in it anymore. SF4 on the other hand looks great, even better if we get capcom v. takuwhatever. That looks to be the greatest, craziest fighting game to ever grace gaming in a long time.

I have to agree with KMCC. Cammie looks horrible. Some of the art for the other characters were a little below my expectations as well (i.e. Chun-Li, Bison). Also, in regards to the animation I can't help but feel that I'm playing a really good looking flash game at times. But, maybe my expectations were a little to high. Either way, great attempt regardless.
