Super Smash Bros Brawl: The Lost Tracks photo

I guess I'm getting old, because I can't keep up with the endless action in Super Smash Bros Brawl.  For some reason, my character is always flying off the screen! One of the things that I do love about Super Smash Bros Brawl is that it doubles as massive treasure chest of all things Nintendo. Being a fan of game music, my favorite feature of Brawl is the expansive selection of songs from Nintendo games, old and new.

While the song selection is already pretty great, it seems that a few songs fell through the cracks. Apparently several songs were created (or at least planned) but not used. EditorArtist uncovers these song names from a listing in a file named "smashbros_sound.brsar" on the Brawl game disc. And, for your listening pleasure, they're all listed here in a sort of unofficial album.  It gets even better with this detailed chart, which gives the reasons behind the song choices, as well as their history. There's an unfortunate misspelling in that list of "cookie" -- I don't want to think about Yoshi's Cockie.

As much as I like this fake album, I would have rather heard the Brawl version. There are some really great songs in here that deserve the upgrade. It's a bummer to see that some of the Earthbound songs didn't make it. I would kill to hear a new version of "Ballad of the Windfish" from Link's Awakening. You'll just have to settle for my version of this song for now.

What other songs do you think they missed from the Brawl lineup?

Holy crap.

Yoshi's Cockie sounds like the best game ever.

Saw this yesterday, Smiles and Tears and 8 Melodies are great. I wonder why they were removed though? I know there were copy right issues with Sons of Liberty main theme.

Sad panda about the removal of the Earthbound/Mother tracks. I'm a big fan of pretty much all the music from that game.

Sorry for the double post but I just listened to the sonic music cut from the game and wow I didn't think it could get any worse than Seven Rings in Hand.

That MarioRPG song is amazing, and that sonic song is so bad... its even worse than Seven Rings in Hand

The lack of New Age Retro Hippie music greatly saddens me. That and the fact that you have to play on New Pork City to actually hear the most of the EB/Mother tracks sucks. (The Humoresque of a Little Dog remix was greatly disappointing as well.)

Earthbound got the shaft.

I could think of about 50 Donkey Kong Country songs that I wish would have made it. Like K. Rool's theme from DKC2, or Squawk's Shaft.

What the fudge the MGS2 song was cut? You'd think that would be a shoe-in. I mean, when you think Metal Gear, you hear that song.

What copyright issues could they have had that shouldn't have been resolved by the agreement to put Snake in the game in the friggin' first place though?

Ballad of the Windfish, why were you cut? Thats one of the songs that I really wanted to be in Brawl. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad about this.

The piece was composed by an American composer, don't remember the name, who didn't work for Konami and who maintains the rights over the songs. Nothings for sure, but my guess as to why it got cut was that he didn't want it used in Brawl for some reason.

ZekeThePlumber: Mother always gets the shaft. =(

I'm disappointed that "Master Porky's Theme" isn't in the game, as it's an epic track (I'd trade "You Call This A Utopia?!" for it in a heartbeat).

That said, "Snowman" is absolutely beautiful, and the soundtrack is my favorite thing about SSBB. It's got to have one of the very best soundtracks ever.

Back then the MGS2 Theme alone almost made me buy a PS2 instead of a Gamecube and back then I was a hardcore Nintendo fanboy... I found it weird that it wasn't in Brawl because I don't think any game music will reach the epicness of that song. The MGS Love Theme Remix is pretty badass too but it's not as epic. I'm also sad alot of the Earthbound/Mother stuff got the cut, I don't see why, but I never play in those stages because they suck ass. New Pork City is too big, and the stage layout is weird, Onett is not that bad but the random cars piss me off.

I was really hoping that either that or Theme of a Bad Boy would make it in, but I really like You Call This A Utopia?! I love the synth they added to it. Sucks that I have to play on the worst stage in Brawl to enjoy it though :(

damn, the MGS remix that appeared in beatmania? I can only assume they didn't wanna risk 'Explicit Lyrics' having to be added to the ESRB label. (If you've heard it you know what I'm talking about)

Scary Womanizing Pig Mask: My problem is that YCTaU and "Porky's Theme" are basically the same song. And yeah, too bad the Mother stages suck... I miss Fourside from SSBM.

They didn't even give us the awesome song that went on Fourside. They gave us the DK Rap but not that?

I like Onett a lot though. It's probably my favorite of the Melee stages. NPC is so... disappointing though. I was especting it to be awesome like Temple but alas, what can you do?

Guys, this is someone's April fool's joke, just a little early. It's great music, don't get me wrong... but if someone pulled it from the Smash bros. disc I'll eat one of Rio's hats. You can check SWPM's cblog for my Matlockery.

And CTZ, if you liked that Mario RPG track, there are more like it.

What a damn shame. (Assuming it's not just some lame April Fool's joke as Qalamari suggests. If it is, meh.)

Ballad of the Windfish and Beware the Forest's Mushrooms would have been epic, as would have pretty much any of those EarthBound tracks. The two Metal Gear Solid themes being missing kind of sucks too, though I'd have the original version of the MGS1 theme or one of the other remixes to the one included in the list above. An original Brawl remix would have been best though, of course, but oh well.

And, yeah, that Sonic thing does suck hairy balls.

Beyond those listed above, I would have liked to have heard a new version of the first Giygas battle theme from EarthBound, but no such luck.

Oh, and a version of the actual Onett theme would have been nice as well. I mean, I like Pollyanna** and Bein' Friends** well enough, but if you're going to have Onett and all, why not have a version of the actual town theme to go with it.

** - Note: those are not the Melee version of those, but the versions from the Mother Vocal album.

They also need "Pokey mean business" or something ! (The battle against Giygas in earthbound/mother2). Also, I see "the 8 melodies" in this list. But aren't the 8 melodies already in the begining of the music that play on the Onett stage ?
