Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I have made no secret of my burning hatred for the bullsh*t that gets heaped on the European market by Japanese publishers, not least by Nintendo, whose decision to refuse Europe a release date for one of the most anticipated Wii titles of all time (out of like, two) was taken by many, especially myself, as a huge slap in the face. I don't even care to play the thing, but principles are principles.

Anyway, the release date seems to have FINALLY been revealed, weeks after the US got their copies, months after Japan, and long after everyone has stopped caring about the stupid overhyped game. Aaaand if you thought it'd head our way any time soon, think again. Nintendo will see fit to grace Europe with Brawl's presence on June 27th. That's a few days before July, which was the originally rumored release month. I guess an optimist could say that means we're getting it earlier than expected. That person would be murdered shortly thereafter. After receiving weeks of conflicting, rubbish excuses, and Reggie Fils-Aime taking the p*ss out of them all, European Nintendo fans can finally play Brawl (legally) in the middle of the summer.

Thanks, Nintendo, you're the greatest!

Wankers.

i've gotta say, i just moved to the US this past year for college, and it really is much better here when you actually get to play a game when it's hype reaches the max. having lived in the middle east beforehand (which gets it's games even after europe, for the most part), i definitely know what it's like to get shafted on more or less every single game. my condolences go to those who are currently living in europe :(

Too late Nintendo... I've already had my Wii chipped, and got a downloaded copy of US Brawl from my cousin. Not only that, but my dear cousin gave me several other DVD's with Wii games on them (oooh Mario Kart is fun!).
I normaly dont support piracy, but there are limits to how much I can tolerate. I just felt like being rebelious for once.
This could've been prevented you know...

I played Brawl for a week and it was awesome... then I went back to my normal gaming which mainly consists of playing Xbox 360.

As long as you get GTA IV on time I think everything will be fine.

I think the cynicism on this site is the reason why I visit much less than I used to.

Europe has had mario kart wii for a while, and that gets no mention. Lift up those fat rolls in the shower, and you may be able to get the sand out of your vaj.

@mandle

are you as old as your avatar shows?

cynicism is the reason i VISIT the site. why would mario kart wii get mention in a smash bros. article? big deal europe had it 3 weeks before us in the U.S.

that still doesn't condone the fact that they waited an additional 4-5 months

The cynicism used to be served with a side of humor. There is nothing funny in this article. Maybe Mr. Sterling just sucks.

Its an article that whines about how europe gets hosed all the time. You're right. Why would it mention a game that negates that point?

Release of Mario Cart Wii:

EU April 11.
US April 27.

That's 2 weeks

Release Brawl:

Us March 9.

Eu June 27.

That's 4 months

Just a hypothesis.

Im not saying its ok but Brawl has basically Nintendos wole history in the game. Its not like an rpg where you are simply translating text. Boxart, release history, the descriptions for the trophies and maybe the trophies themselves, and voice work for pokemon and ATs.

The only people that I think have a legitimate right to pirate are Australians. I dont really understand why you guys have to wait so long or as long as PAL.

But ... that IS still translating all text. Your argument holds no water whatsoever.

No, a more sensible argument is Metal Gear Solid 4, which has a shitload of subtitle text AND voiceovers, and is being released WORLDWIDE on the same day.

Konami can do it.

Nintendo can't.

And that's fucked up.

I think that's a phoney argument. If Nintendo isn't capable of a worldwide release, that's just bad planing and management. And if they don't want to, that's even worse.

I won't be buying this game on principle now, I was mildly interested in it during the hype, but I honestly don't really care that much about it.

I do think it's pretty disrespectful they way Nintendo has "handled" this situation. Have they even given us a reason behind the delay? Sure we can speculate, but have *they* told us?

I may wind up selling my Wii now, there isn't much I play on it, and the games I have played were basically GameCube ports.

The fact that Europe is getting this game almost half a year later is disturbing.
The fact that Australia still doesn't have a release date is confusing and aggravating.

I think it's strange (and funny.) how sony shuts down the lik sang website and people in Europe still support the PS3 (and sony.) rather strongly.

Nintendo phails to release some big hittin games earlier than they should and they get the "fuck you" card. It's awesome and shows how badly Nintendo's marketing is screwing up outside of Japan.

They've given us two different excuses, one of which was a ridiculous "cannot meet demand" argument. I can't remember the other one, but it was equally stupid.

Can't meet demand? No way is this fucking game going to outsell GTA IV which is released ummmmm this week!?

I thinl part of the reason why Nintendo does this, is because they know the average consumer si going to buy the game nevertheless.

hey i dunno maybe it has to do with DISTRIBUTION OR SUPPLY/PRODUCTION issues? Or did you ever take into consideration the fact that Europe has WAY more countries than the other regions and that somehow that just maybe miiiight factor into distribution issues?? Nintendo is a company that wants to make as much profit as possible. Stop taking things so fucking personal you idiot. Nintendo doesnt owe you anything, if you dont like Nintendo then stop trying so hard to like them and just get over it.

Yes, It must take almost half a year to get those copies over to Europe. It's a long long trip.

Don't even think about getting them to Australia, I'm pretty sure Nintendo are having to invent some kind of Quantum Space/Time distorting portal to reach there.

All of these positive posts disagree with you.

"and if you do fancy yourself a gaming journalist, your bias nature fucks that up."

I'm not a games journalist. I can be as biased as I want and you will just have to learn to get the fuck over it.

"Is hype the only reason you play games? Are you that big of a loser that you need to trash everything and create controversy rather then posting the clear and present facts about why you enjoy playing games."

Your bias against my posts fuck up this argument. rofl.

"Its sucks that Brawl was pushed back in Europe but there must be a reason."

They've given two conflicting reasons that have no logical merit.

"You just arent that good of a journalist to find that out."

I'm not a journalist.

"You just prey on the anger of people and hope that gets you lots of posts."

I don't have to hope for it when there are people like you around.

"So don't play the game on principle alone, no one will be hurt if you dont it's only you that misses out, not the hype train."

You misread my point. I'm not interested in the game regardless, but on principle, I want to speak up for my European counterparts who DO want it and are shafted. I also want Europeans who feel shafted to speak with their wallets and their imports.

"Also what kind of loser uses pageviews as a viable argument for anything."

Someone who has a SHITLOAD of pageviews.
