Super Smash Bros. Brawl delay creates an opportunity for other Wii titles photo

I don't think that anyone (save for some fanboys) is too pleased with the recent announcement of an early 2008 delay for Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii, but this delay might be paving the way for other top Wii titles to see a sales boost.

IGN's GamerMetrics took a look at how this delay might affect the holiday sales season for other Wii titles. They checked with Smash fans to see what they would be looking forward to this holiday now that the title is out of the picture. It should be no surprise that Super Mario Galaxy tops that list, followed by Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. The full top ten list (after the jump) also contains a few Xbox 360 games.

GamerMetrics analyst Nick Williams sums things up. "While the delay of Super Smash. Bros Brawl will have a significant impact on these title affinities, the impact on holiday hardware sales should be marginal at best. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has already stated that Nintendo is going to struggle to meet holiday demand, and it's unlikely that any software releases will change that. Furthermore, the Super Smash Bros. audience is made up of a more enthusiast crowd, the majority of whom already own a Wii."

It's interesting that 360 games made the list. As for me, I might pick Trauma center or something. I already planned on getting a couple games on that list.

Gotta admit, I'd rather just save the money for Brawl in February, since unless I get this on-campus job I applied for, I still have to be tight with money.

Much to the dismay of Wii owners it's a good move. Now games like Fire Emblem, Trauma Center, and Guitar Hero 3 won't be so overlooked. In addition, it'll give Mario Galixies a slightly bigger boost in sales.

Or they could've just polled Euro Wii owners 'months' ago since we were never getting Brawl in 2007 :(

I'm not really thinking of buying another game just because Brawl it out later either.

Yeah, I'll most likely be getting some other games that I wouldn't have gotten if Smash hadn't been delayed. It sucks that it's delayed, but they announced it back in June 2005 and I've waited this long. So a little longer won't kill me.

I'm thinking about getting UMK3 for DS. That'll be a good fighting game to hold me over.

I am more likely to pick up galaxy now, but I might still not pick up any titles this holiday season. I have a feeling that since they still haven't set a day on Nights yet that it will get pulled back till after the holiday season.
