Super Scribblenauts officially announced photo

We all knew it was coming, but Warner Bros. has today made the Scribblenauts sequel, Super Scribblenauts, official. Scheduled for Autumn 2010, players will get to enjoy the return of Maxwell in a world of all-new puzzles, upgrades and, of course, yet more words that can be brought to life.

The biggest feature is undoubtedly an improved control system, which means that hopefully the demented physics of the first game have been brought to heel. Adjectives can also be used to create new variations. Do you want an electric mongoose? Well go out there and get an electric mongoose, son!

So, anybody excited?

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces Super Scribblenauts as the title for its follow-up to the groundbreaking hit video game. In the first game, players used their imagination to write any word to bring that object to life and use it to solve puzzles. The original Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS has sold more than 1.1 million units worldwide since its launch in September 2009.

Available in autumn 2010, Super Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS expands the innovative elements from the acclaimed first title, offers upgraded controls and provides gamers with hours of original entertainment with ingenious, fun-filled new features. In Super Scribblenauts, created and developed by 5TH Cell, players use the stylus and touch screen to help Maxwell, the game’s hero, acquire the “Starite,” the prize earned from solving the puzzle in even more robust challenges and redesigned levels.

All-new for Super Scribblenauts, players now have the ability to write any object that comes to mind and modify it in any way they desire using adjectives to reach the goal in many levels. Adjectives can change the colour, size, style, behaviours and many other aspects of the object they are describing. Multiple adjectives can be combined together to produce incredibly creative objects, such as gentlemanly, flaming, flying zombies and purple, obese, winged elephants, allowing the player’s imagination to run wild for an even more inspired and individual experience than ever before.

So this is Scribblenauts 2. Technically this was announced ages ago, looks like all they did was change the name.

As disappointed as I ended up being with the original, I am excited for this one. I notice in the press release they still make no mention of using the D-pad, but hopefully the "upgraded controls" mean just that.

First was a boring piece of shit.
I see no reason why this won't be.

Oh guys, Nintendo Power covered this a few months ago. D-Pad control will be an option. Thank the lord. Also, they're definitely tightening the structure of the game, though I'm still not sure if its going to be enough.

Not sure if I want it. I mean, the better controls do help a lot, but the first game had a lot of other problems, like boring or just broken levels.

Mind you, If "Flaming Cthulu" is a possible entry I'll buy it.

I'm one of the seemingly few people that enjoyed the original. If this one fixes the controls and makes different objects weigh differently, I'll be very happy.

And the first one was NOT too hard, save for a few levels. I was able to complete most levels and I suck at games. Like, really badly. If Skribblenauts was too hard you were playing it wrong.

I'm excited! The second screen shot suggests you can summon zero gravity. I also like the ridiculousness of the winged gun that shots winged bullets in the third.

Controls were poor, for sure, but overall I had a lot of fun with it and I am guardedly excited for the sequel. As long as the main character doesn't randomly spaz out and run to his death anymore, that's a good start.

Have the improved (read: optional D-pad) controls actually been announced? Because that was literally the only thing that kept the last game from working fantastically well.

Come on, 5th Cell. Don't fuck me on this, Goddamnit.

I think we can agree that we should try to keep the hype under control and be pleasantly surprised when the game turns out well. Agreed?

This one is going to be classic. 120 new puzzle levels, a brand new level editor, crazy items like the Create-a-Tron. Maxwell's controled with the D-pad and the camera isn't fixed to him now. 5th Cell was listening and sounds like they went above and beyond fixing any issues with the original.

Though I was expecting an long adjective heavy title like...

Amazing Technicolor Dream Scribblenauts

Nah I kid, but the game felt more like an early demo of a brilliant concept so if they can just build on it, it could be spectacular.
