Rare videogame collectors, get your wallets out. The sassy RawMeatCowboy over at GoNintendo came across this auction on eBay for a rare Star Fox jacket. The jacket was only given out to people that got specific high scores during the Star Fox Competition Nintendo hosted back in '93.
This jacket was only worn a couple of times and is a size medium. The auction also comes with a couple or rare Star Fox pins, the two original documentations Nintendo sent the seller and a copy of Star Fox for the Super Nintendo. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
This story reminds me of the time I entered the Blockbuster World Video Game Championship II for Donkey Kong Country. I lost in the first round because I didn't understand what the hell I was supposed to do (I actually played through level like I normally would, finding the secrets and all). I did win a pack of awesome Marvel trading cards at least. So, who's going to try and get this jacket?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Anyway it aint worth much but is my little proud ownership of memorabilia and a tiny part of computer/gaming related history.
Whats everyone elses? Got anything interesting, old or rare computer related?
That would never work out, but imagine if it did...
You could just imagine the witch hunt that would ensue after someone gets it with spots all over it.
He didn't say he "won" the pack of cards, what he means to say is that they gave him the pack of cars as a "sorry you're not that great a this game" prize.
eoaa nailed it though. It's still a win to me.
Keep those bad thoughts in check people, or at least take them back to Gamefaqs or GT.
Also, Christian, its Friday night. What can you expect? An announcement for Super Mario Bros. 4? A smelly Starfox jacket isn't the last thing I would have preferred to see before hitting the sheets but hey, you gotta take what you get.
Peace people.
Why don't you check out who wrote that Donkey Kong Competition article he linked to. Hint: It wasn't Hamza.
WIN.
That is all.
Ach I'm just jealous that I can't afford it.

The only "rare" thing I own is my BioShock Little Sister shirt, which I think only about 15 people outside of the company (Take 2) own.
Plus my signed RvB shirt from PAX.
I have to pay my school $5000 for the next year (Canadian tuition fees rock! Suck it you lazy Americans!).
I WILL go into debt for this jacket. Thank you Mastercard and your trust in me!
Hey - Anyone remember the Nintendo Power Fest(1990)?!
I had the pleasure of going to it! The memories are still fresh and clear! I can still recall playing Gremlins 2 for the NES! :)
also the vest is great, but I wouldn't wear it, just hang it on the wall :-)
:( :( :(
see?....three sad faces!! THREE!!!
Man, they need to have more stuff like this these days. Another example is how you could sign up for free videogame comics for registering. I guess Rockstar is doing it with the social club.
the starfox jacket? not so much. though, it would be rock for 80s night at the bars.
robcat09: Dude, that's awesome! Show us some pics!
I got this jacket, choice of game (Plok! look it up, it's excellent), and something else I can't remember. Good times.
and a hat from one of them.
never worn
Since they all ran indipendant I could go anywhere rack up the scores and get a prize everytime since starfox was new most people did not have the game and was clueless, the only threat was people who beat the real starfox game.
and i got a few extras
I got the flyer from the contest.
and what you can win bribe.
I bribed the contest runner to let me buy that special starfox cart used in the contest for $60 on the last day an hour of the weekend contest.
He is jsut selling a normal cart? lame.
you get the other prizes in with the jacket. that is why I got more than one T-shirt one came in my jacket package.
