Super Paper Mario hitting the Wii this April? photo

The ill-fated, quietly-shown title at E3 2006 that was set to be the Gamecube's last hurrah may be coming to the Wii sooner than anyone had expected.

According to Codename Revolution, the March 2007 issue of Nintendo Power reveals that Super Paper Mario will be coming to the Wii in April. For those at home without calendars, that's really soon.

To be released in APRIL! Mario finds himself in the interdimensional town of flipside as a black hole looms overhead along with floating math equations. You have to use the controller sideways moving the control pad and jumping with the 2 button (OLD SCHOOL!). A button allows you to switch from 2D to 3D and later in the game you’ll encounter creatures called Pixls that will give Mario new abilities that make an interesting use of the Wiimote. Tippy (a butterfly) allows you to search areas for secrets, you can point the Wiimote at the screen to spotlight hidden doors or learn info about the enemy. When you jump on an enemy, if you shake the Wiimote you can gain extra points. Game has graphical enhancements from the E3 build (the issue has new screenshots)

For what it's worth, GameStop has the game listed for a June 2007 release. While its cancellation and re-birth on the Wii has been public knowledge for awhile, it's nice to hear that we might get our hands on the game within the next few months.

Let's hope we get some official information soon, because I'd actually like to buy a Wii game before next Thanksgiving.

This makes perfect sense and no sense at all at the same time. Mario Galaxy possibly delayed til fucking xmas 08? here's paper play time to keep u busy. if it's as great as the previous paper mario games i'll gladly take it, but if this is true then how come nintendo hasn't shown more of it recently?

Gaming rumors is the closest my stomach will ever feel to waiting for a pregnancy test result. we have to wait for months for an answer though, not just minutes, it's not fair.

Horray! This game is going to rock. Playing Paper Mario 2 right now and the old school side scrolling Bowser levels crack me up.

Also, that screen is a remake of Level 1-2 from the original Super Mario Bros. Neat.

So from what I read, the only additions for Wii is that you can shake the controller when you jump on enemies for bonuses and that you can use the pointer as a flashlight? The first one seems gimmicky at best, and using the thing I'm moving with to light up the screen reminds me of using either the gun or the flashlight in Doom 3.

I'm all for more Wii games, but why does this game needed to only work on one system instead of two? I'm still looking forward to it, though.

If it wasn't January right now, I would ask if this was from the April issue of Nintendo Power. Whenever I see news of something being released in April when it is spring, I allways get supicious.

Game could be good but I'd rather get the original Super Mario RPG on the snes for virtual console. Paper Mario RPG was good but not as good as the snes rpg.

They just should have put it out on the Cube, there is no reason to have it on the Wii.
