People were happy publishing new games for PS2 after PS3 came out - why mess with something with such a large install base?
From what I've heard WiiWare has never done well for whatever reason. It's sad too because there are a lot of hidden gems on there.

WiiWare has a lot of things going against it. It has a cumbersome interface to find and buy titles. Demos are scarce and were originally non-existent. Prices are high versus comparable services (for both overpriced emulated console games as well as new material). The Wii's memory limits caused Nintendo to harshly limit WiiWare game sizes, and lost the system a few decent offerings. The Wii's low resolution hurts some types of games. The Wii's online system discourages online gaming. Etc.
It honestly had a rather uphill battle from the start, and Nintendo didn't do it any particular favors themselves.

We were opposite these guys at our GDC Play booth earlier this year, they were super nice. We tag-teamed so they played MacGuffin while we played Super Motherload - we both had a lot of fun! Always cool to meet nice devs, I hope this game does well for them.
