Super Metroid HD wins Game of the Year in Middle-earth (Update)

Super Metroid HD wins Game of the Year in Middle-earth (Update) photo
     Totally Ontinental

From Alchemist Defined -- the same artist responsible for yesterday’s gorgeous Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD mock-up -- comes this equally beautiful rendering of a fictional Super Metroid in HD. I hate typing the word “fictional,” as I keep trying to trick my mind into thinking this game is real.

Not only does this image look absolutely stunning, but it is depicting one of my favorite sequences in the history of videogames: the final showdown between Samus and the extra powerful form of Mother Brain. I almost feel like paying someone with my first born child to make this game a reality, if only to see how the rest of this dramatic scene pans out in high-definition. You fellow diehard fans of Super Metroid know what I am talking about. This scene gets really good in about five seconds.

True, there may be almost too much going on in the overly busy image, but just the fact that it hints at what a 2D/HD Metroid game could look like makes it completely worth it. Like yesterday, check the gallery for a larger version, perfect for your computer wallpaper.

I don’t even have any idea who this Alchemist Defined character is, but I already want to be his/her B.F.F. Call me.

[UPDATE: I just found a hidden Easter Egg concerning this AMAZING pic! On the Alchemist Defined Web site, there is some secret inviso text saying there are hidden images in the picture. Those images are: a Game Boy, a Super Nintendo cartridge, Gunpei, an NES design, and a warp pipe. I haven't found any of them yet. Can you?]

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Seriously. B.F.F.!]

My God, that looks incredible! Super Metroid is one of my all-time favorite games, so imagining what it would be like to have an HD Super Metroid is both cruel (because it will likely never happen) and awesome at the same time.

It makes you wish Nintendo did have an HD capable system. Of course, Odin Sphere exists on the PS2, and that has the same quality of graphics. Maybe not true HD, but definely amazing standard definition 2D artwork. This could be a reality if Nintendo would put a small art team on it. It's just...how many would they actually sell?

There should be developers dedicated to making HD versions of old games, that the real creators (nintendo etc) could hire and get it done. Basically a crew of amazing artists getting the code and pimping it up, then reselling it together with the original devs! One can dream...

He already makes wallpapers, now all he has to do is completely redo all of the artwork in the entire game, and he'll have something that everybody would want to play. GET TO IT ALCHEMIST!

Yeah, the sonic mockup was interesting, but this... this is just... beyond amazing. I would kill a stranger for this game. Seriously. If that's what it came to, I wouldn't even hesitate. And I'm not at all a violent or angry person.

Chad, the fact that nobody has made HD Metroid makes me sad. These images are what beauty great games could be. Beauty that those great games are truly worthy of but will never actually know... *sniff*

Dear Nintendo,

Many gamers still love 2D and will even settle for 2.5D. Please remake Super Metroid in HD, even if it means I have to wait until the next console generation. I would buy eleventy million copies and we would become friends forever. I will be your loyal servant.

Hugs and Kisses,

Naia

Does Nintendo have an online store for this kind of content, and if so, how's the internal memory going to handle this? If this was to happen, I assume hard copies are the only way to go, which isn't too bad. You know, if it's meaty enough.
