Spencer over at SiliconEra has just made me the happiest person on the planet today. In fact, I dare say I'm happier than Chad Concelmo right now.

Spencer found a list of some upcoming Virtual Console releases for the next two months in Japan. There are a bunch of games on the list, which include Phantasy Star IV, Blazing Lazers, Ninja Commando and the biggest game of the bunch, Super Mario RPG. Super Mario RPG is planned to come out sometime in July and will go for 900 points instead of the regular 800 points most Super Nintendo games are priced at.

OMG! OMG! OMG! Sorry, but seeing any type of news about this game this day and age brings out my inner fanboy. This is my favorite game of all time and I'm just floored by this news. Not to mention the fact that Square is letting a high profile RPG come out to the Virtual Console finally. Could Chrono Trigger be on the horizon?

No word on an American release, but I'd be willing to give up one of my Kidneys for this to come out here. Super Mario RPG did get an ERSB rating at some point, so the day could come when it's finally released here.

[Thanks, power-glove!]

I've been looking for the Super Mario RPG game for my SNES for the last 6 years! It better come out over here even though I still want a copy of it for my collection.

Damn I love that game.

This is certainly great news, but it pisses me off immensely that Nintendo fleeces us on the better titles just because they know we'll pay it. -_-

Phantasy Star IV and Super Mario RPG in one day? Can the world handle that much awesome in one sitting? I'm pretty sure I can't.

@Kia

The extra price probably has more to do with the fact that the game was developed by Square and published by Nintendo so they will share the revenue. If it had been made only by Nintendo it would likely be only 800 points.

TMNT for NES was 600 points because Konami had to sublicense from Ubisoft in order to re-release it. That game sucked even when it was new :p

A winner is all of us! Assuming you have a Wii, wifi connection and are a fan of SMRPG. I happen to fit into that demographic. And then Phantasy Star 4 as well?! Thats my favorite RPG of the Genesis era. Shit yeah, I can't wait for some US releases!

I would be REALLY surprised if it didn't come out in the US. Nintendo Power polls their readers for VC titles they want to see and Super Mario RPG has been in the top 5, along with Mother, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and Majora's Mask. All those titles sound pretty good to me.

They would be pissing a lot of people off if they didn't.

Seriously 900 points? I bet Squenix pushed that. Greedy assholes.

How dare you Skullivan, the first TMNT on NES was awesome. Many people equate "sucked" with "I wasn't good at it" don't worry, I understand.

Also, Mutant Pope, that was a list for the next 2 months, all those games aren't coming out the same day. It's still enough awesome for 2 months, though, for the record.

Oh I own the original, but the damn thing erases saved games at random, so this'll be great. I'd buy it anyways though, like StarTropics it's just one of those games to me, only my ST cart still works great...

My work is done.

I think the higher price is still worth it given the sheer length and magnitude of what you're getting. After all, the profits have to be split somehow, and it may as well be slightly more than what the people are used to by virtue of being a collaboration.

Super Mario RPG and Phantasy Star IV had better come to the US soon!

Along with Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore for the SNES. Also Shining Force 2 and Crusader of Centy for the Sega Genesis.

Not excited about Phantasy Star IV on VC. Much better deal to pick up the Sega Genesis Collection for PS2 or PSP. Unless you don't have either of those, I suppose.

It sort of breaks their pricing scheme to charge $9 for Super Mario RPG, but if that extra dollar is what it takes to bribe Square-Enix into putting their classic RPGs on VC who cares? Too bad it'll be the last one we'll probably see for a LONG time, if we ever see any others at all.

It's $9 damn dollars people you cheap bastards that's bargain bin DVD territory at Walmart. You know the ones with like 4 kungfu movies. This is a freaking steal and this game this holiest of holys SuperMarioRPG is worth way more than that to me. This game this awesome ahead of it's time game is well worth every damn dime those greedy bastards want because bigum those bastards created that blissful experience.

My Pants right now can barely contain the load that has dropped!

Nintendo owns the SMRPG rights, so no, CT is still not coming out. That game is the main reason Square hated Nintendo too, because they would barely let Square even put their name on the game.

@Wedge - please explain this Square - Nintendo dispute over CT. I've never heard that one! Probably the reason CT has never been released on DS (if Square still bear the grudge).

BTW awesome video!
