Everything is just all happiness and smiles for Mario and the Toad people when all of a sudden, BAM! The town gets attacked by none other than Bowser and ... HOLY SH*T! IT'S THE FLYING WAR SHIPS! No idea if you'll be actually able to fight on the ships (like in SMB 3) but just seeing them and hearing the Warship theme brought a splash of retro joy to my blackened heart.
I also liked the fact that when Mario runs by the Toads, what they say automatically pops up rather than you having to press a button to talk to them everytime. The video then goes on to show Bowser summoning a space ship and then taking the Princess's castle into outer space. The prologue ends with Magikoopa swooping down and blasting Mario off of the castle.
Turns out Sir David has known about this since he "hacked" the game at Leipzig. Also, I am official excited for this game now.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

That is beautiful...many don't agree but I find that to be 360 quality graphics (if the 360 game was also only running in 480p). Feel free to disagree...but I can't wait to play this on my 52" HDTV.
My favorite part is the panicked screams of the Mushroom Kingdom residents. Also, why does Peach speak English when her subjects at least write in Japanese? And if she learned English from Mario, wouldn't she speak it with an Italian accent?
For some strange reason I can't help but to feel overwhelmed with joy. Seeing Mario in the very beginning running happily is a nice touch in my opinion, you don't really see too much of that ever in a game.
The pirate ships are going to kick butt. 'nuff said.
wow that was EpicyEpicness!!! Peach's dress blowing in the wind, the (closest to) carnage and destruction of the Mushroom Kindgdom for real real!!! Wow this has me completely excited now.
Now if only the Koopa Kids came back. They were so awesome and creative, and thinking of them makes me cry whenever I see that little bastard Bowser Jr.
Awesome. I can't think of a reason for them to bring them back instead of using something else, if they didn't serve some function other than cutscenes.
While it may not technically have the best graphics, I can honestly say that is the best looking game I have ever seen. Why can't any third parties \ or any other first party games for that matter \ pull off graphics like galaxy?
Because game developers are lazy. If I was Nintendo I would seriously consider becoming an exclusive first party in house company. The way in which third parties have treated the Wii, really makes their existance on Wii a hindrance rather than a help.
360 and PS3 get the best teams third party support can offer, the triple A teams, they also get games which have a substantial budget behind them, the Wii gets the reserve teams, ports and low budget cash ins, then third parties wonder why their games don't sell well on Nintendo machines. It's been this way since the N64, and I don't think it's going to change, I really don't think third parties share Nintendo's vision, so they are not prepared to commit time and resources into Nintendo games.
Nintendo should realise this and set up a self sustainable software infrastructure, everyone buys Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games anyway, if gamers want third party games, they get the other consoles. Nintendo should stop kidding themelves that they are part of the third party scene. They are so obviously not.
So Nintendo, tell third parties to fuck off and stop pretending that they are in with the Wii, accept that you and you alone are fully commited to your unique console, then ramp up game development, become your own little industry, because Mario Galaxy is just embarrassing, absolutely nothing any third party has done or is going to do for the Wii, will come close. Yet I can confidently predict that the 360 & PS3 will absolutely rely on quality third party support which will push their console's to the limits.
I'm so excited aboot this game that I've decided to go dark. That is to say that from now on I refuse to look at any screenshots or videos, including this one. I didn't read any of the comments either, just in case of delicious spoilers.
But I did cream my jeans. That's right fellow nerds; splooging at the title of the post. Beat that (pun not intended, maybe).
Learn to read mate, I'm firmly on the side of Nintendo, calling crap third party support 'lazy'.
Mario Galaxy shames the hell out of the pathetic efforts put out by third parties on the Wii.
Is that clear enough for you?
Also, you do realise that before the Wii became a huge hit, Iwata was contemplating cutting off third party support altogether, and seriously considering going it alone, I personally think it's a good idea and I wish Nintendo would just do it. Sony and Micrososft monopolise quality third party support, people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, so why the pretence?
Did the whole raining-comets-on-the-Mushroom-Kingdom scene strike anyone else as quite a shock for a Mario game? I think it is fair to say that we're all buying this.
brimtastic completely agrees with the zardoz; although I've never heard of the whole 1st-party-only console idea. Any delicious sauce on that one?
Anywho, the only reason I still cherish my Wiible now is for the Nintendo games. It is a grim day for the Wii when arguably the best (and prettiest) game around 2 months ago was a launch title that was originally a GC game :/
I would say that some third parties are trying though. I just think Nintendo should adopt a policy where they can veto games that suck massive amounts of dong.
Red Steel: Sorry Ubisoft, but you gotta get the controls down. can't endorse it yet.
I was expecting a parody of Independence Day where a big green light was gonna shine over the castle and vaporize it in a wave of hellfire and death. Well, subsitute hellfire and death with clever Nintendoized PG damage.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm excited for the new Mario and Smash Brothers. And Mario Kart. ::sigh:: my wallet cries.
Also: The princess got captured, WHO COULD OF FORSEEN THIS COMEING? Oh Noez! What a twist!
and i cant believe thats the second time hes put peach into space!

Also, already pre-ordered it.

This game needs to have Bowser and Tatanga team up and form partners in crime. That's at least what I thought when "Galaxy" came into play.
It's like everything old is new again and twice as awesome.
Third-party developers: you're officially on notice.
check the Spin attack gameplay video, about 19 sec in. Just 3 seconds, but it is there!

Time to stop pretending Nintendo.
Also, i like how you put all the blame for shitty third party games on Nintendo. TIME TO STOP PRETENDING LOL!!
This is so cool. Flying Ships!
