HOLY CRAP THIS LOOKS BETTER AND BETTER EVERY TIME I SEE IT. FAAAAAP.
OH MY GOD YES! Spring Mario was annoying and harder to control than anything else in the game. It can go burn in a fire for all I care.
FUCK.YES.
Can't wait.
That's freakin' adorable.
Why is it the year I'm getting a PS3 all of these awesome Wii games are coming out ¬¬
ROLL ON 3D DOT HEROES THAT MONTH!!
Well NSMB: Wii just came out a few months ago, so I really don't see what you have to complain about. Sure this might not be to your liking, but you don't have to buy it. You already had your side scrolling Mario game last year, so let the people who enjoy the 3D one have this one this year. As for online, ah yeah don't hold your breathe on that one. This is Nintendo we're talking about here. I doubt we'll ever see online mutliplayer in a main story Mario game.
Also- that "hub world" is as non-threatening as Katamari Damacy's (in which it's essentially the menu). What's important in not having a hub world is the ability to not get lost trying to find a certain level.
And considering the hub world (as well as it's somber tone) and the lack of initial difficulty in Galaxy were the main things I didn't like about it, I have plenty of reasons to believe there is a chance I'll like this one if I didn't like the first.
Just to do the math, a gamer can get a Wii ($200), an extra controller and nunchuck ($50), an extra wheel ($15), Mart Kart Wii ($50), Super Mario Galaxy ($50), New Super Mario Bros Wii ($50), Smash Bros Brawl ($50), and this ($50) when it comes out for less than $515. All of those games can be played for damn near ever and they don't get old. Seriously, add in $40 in Wii points and a classic controller or two and get Super Mario Bros 1 ($5), Super Mario Bros 2 ($5), Super Mario Bros 3 ($5), Super Mario World ($8), and Super Mario 64 ($10) (and still have some points to spare).
I hate to fanboy out, but really, with the exception of Animal Crossing: City Folk (but my wife played the shit out of that, so it wasn't really mine to bitch about) and to a lesser degree Wii Sports/Sports Resort (which is great with friends, but less great playing solo) and Wii Fit/Fit Plus (which is fun to play, but is in the end, an exercise game, so I feel that if I play it, I need to do some more aerobic stuff while I am in there), there isn't a single 1st party Wii game that I own that I don't enjoy immensely. That does include Strikers and Sluggers (which are pretty fun too), in case you are wondering.
With the exception of a handful of 1 player games (Twilight Princess, Metroid, Super Paper Mario, etc.), almost all first party games for Wii are great multiplayer games that are pretty damn accessible. This, I have to admit, is really a boon for me, since although I am a gamer, my wife is only "kind of" (she is really into Harvest Moon and some games here and there... but I mean *really* into Harvest Moon), we can invite a few friends over to hang out, have dinner, and then all jump on the Wii and tear it up like we are 12 year olds after school (except with beer and until 2am).
Alright, I am finished with fanboying, but this looks really great and if it is anything like Galaxy (which it looks like it is) in terms of design and incorporating clever-yet-not-gimmicky mechanics and have the same level of polish as Nintendo has been churning out in this generation, it will be amazing.
Yeah, it's cute and accessible to kids, but its colorful, fun and (by and large) amazing to play with 2+ people. Also, as an adult with a job, and a wife, and a baby on the way, I can get my game on in 30 minute sprints between real life in much the same way we (as 11 year olds) could fit in a little Nintendo with my friends before we have to go back to our homes for dinner. With Zelda (with the exception of the GB/GBA/DS offerings - which I can just play on the train) I always felt like I need to commit to an hour or three minimum to get a good round of play time in.
I'm 90% sure they did that in Galaxy 1.
Then again I'm happy with whatever system I own too :P
I could play Mario Galaxy 1 for months if I wanted to get all the stars with both Mario and Luigi.
Shame that some gamers this gen can't see a game lacking the aforementioned qualities as a anything more than a crappy kiddie game, but hey, their loss.
