One of the forum members from Sydlexia.com, Not Sure, was determined to beat a bad record. Someone before him beat Super Mario Bros with only 700 points earned. Crazy!
It took him a few days but he was able to complete the game with a 600 point finish, as you'll see in the above video. No deaths. Just skill and patience. In just under eight minutes he was able to dodge all hammers, avoid power-ups and skip all the things you're normally drawn to to help you to save the ugly, big-nosed princess. Amazing.

It's actually longer than 8 minutes as he edited out the time spent at the flagpoles waiting for the timer to run down. Still very cool though. I haven't seen the warp trick in 4-2 before and the way he avoided getting coins in 8-1 was ingenious.
Wait ... that shortcut isn't in 4-2, you have to hit the blocks and get the vine to get up to the mushroom area, which would have required him getting at least one coin. Perhaps he is exploiting some kind of game glitch? I notice he moves a little funny before going down the pipe. Unless that glitch can be proven, I'm rather doubting the authenticity of this vid.
I did the same thing. Cringe and wanted to grab/kill things. This is why I never bother with these things--I would drive myself to the brink of insanity and beyond!
@islan
It is a glitch, though I don't know how he's triggering it in this case. You normally need to move to ahead of the screen (at the right side the screen) to make it work.
Hm, then I will have to check that out. It kinda pains me to find out that there's an easy way to get to that warp which has caused me the most annoyance in my speed-run attempts. :(

"Not really a glitch, but there are 2 warps in 4-2."
It IS a glitch. That pipe usually drops you to a room full of coins.
The way the glitch works has to do with how the game loads events for warp destinations. If you move into the pipe before the game has a chance to "update" the next warp room, it will send you to the one currently loaded, in this case, the mushroom warps.
@El Conrado
If that's the case, then I really wonder how he did it. He certainly seemed to be taking his time going down the pipe; what would trigger the change in the warp in that part?
The goomba jump in 8-1 was the highlight for me. But the 8-3 hammer brothers part was really incredible too. Especially the last two. Kind of made me want to masturbate.
Anyways, I sincerely believe people who play games like this should be hired for play-testing. Seriously, the amount of time they sink into games, learn all their patterns...it's ridiculous.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Make no mistake he isn't cumming, just surprised at this video. :P
Impressive, gamers should look how to cure cancer.
He used the easier one.

It is, but it's not happening without extreme luck or tool assistance.

Ok....I kind of did...
