A couple weeks ago, Jayson Napolitano buzzed a gusher about World 1-2, a landmark music project organized by Mohammed Taher's Koopa Soundworks and Dj CUTMAN's GameChops net labels. They gathered some of the best music talents throughout game history, from the NES era through to the modern indie scene. The full album has been released a day earlier than expected, so go snag it off Bandcamp or Loudr for $10 or iTunes for $11.99 (fuggin' Apple tax).

On the composer side, we've got Manami Matsumae (Mega Man, Shovel Knight), Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden), Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), Austin Wintory (Journey), Eirik Suhrke (Spelunky), and Module (Shatter, Robot Unicorn Attack 2). On the music arranger side, we've got ABSRDST, Ben Briggs, halc, Danimal Cannon (Armcannon, Metroid Metal), Stemage (Metroid Metal), Cory Johnson (post-rock Zelda album), and Video Game Orchestra. And that's not even the full lineup!

World 1-2's 20 tracks span all manner of genres and consist of original numbers as well as game arrangements, sourcing titles like Metroid Prime, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EPSuper Mario World, Dear Esther, Tetris, and the Famicom-only Captain Tsubasa II, curiously enough. No doubt you'll find something to enjoy in this fine spread. If you can't, then you simply hate music.

No Man's Sky planning 'something different' at PlayStation Experience

I've been excited for No Man's Sky for almost a years' time now, but it has become a passive excitement as I wait patiently for it to release. This video, what with some footage I haven't seen and it generally looking a...more

I played a bunch of bizarre first-person shooters so you don't have to

You remember Superhot, don't you? It's a first-person shooter in which time progresses at a normal speed only when you move. Or how about Receiver? It had somewhat realistic gun handling that made for a rewarding experience. ...more

The Blue Flamingo is a ridiculously adorable shmup

Swedish game studio Might and Delight really knows how to make games that stand out visually. Its attractive-looking paper art style on the Shelter series is, in my mind, unmistakable. I can recognize the stud...more
