Quantcast

This episode is about a less popular, less well-paid Street fighter 2 boss trying out for a newer, hotter series. I guess he needs the work.

Side note -- this video is dedicated to the few people who took the time out to call Birdie a "N-word that's not the word nagger" on YouTube over the past few weeks. I find it incredibly interesting that some people would not feel compelled to level that once-powerful racial slur against Sagat, but once you increase the brownness ever so slightly for Birdie, then the bigotry comes out. Just goes to show how ridiculous racism, and its coinciding concept of race, really are.

I wonder what the racists on YouTube will say about this one?

I would have loved this just as much if it was 10 straight minutes of this.

Have you thought about adapting this bit to a feature film?

Birdie can't be a n-----. He also can't be a honkey. He changes skin color based on if he's sick or not. Seriously, check his win quotes for Alpha 3.

"Oh, what!? ... Before? I looked pale because I was sick!!"

Jonathan, I've got to say it, I'm starting to get a little disappointed in direction of this series. I thought it started off very well, even if I didn't agree with every point of every video. The ideas behind it were high concept and direct, albeit through the character of Sagat, which I at the time suspected was because you were not comfortable on camera as yourself and that slipping into a character made it easier, though the E3 vidoes make me think that wasn't the case.

The last few haven't felt nearly as pointed. The first videos really seemed to be communicating a point and went after the topic openly with examples and good use of green screening. Maybe its because I've been working longer hours lately and my head has turned to mush, but unless this is a joke that just went on too long about how many big ticket games still employ absurd racial stereo types at least in the periphery, I really missed it.

I guess I'm just saying I hope your videos return to earlier form, where it really feels like you are directly addressing the viewer with clear chip on your shoulder. I'm too tired by this point of the day for intellectual subterfuge.

Without a doubt the best one was James Brown. There is no such thing as a bad James Brown impersonation.

That was a good Katt Williams impersonation in there.

But, yeah, I think I agree with UltorOscariot a bit, where I still find these hilariously awesome in their own right, I liked the earlier ones being more direct and frank. This seems like it would've worked well as a hilarious cutaway in a longer video about stereotyping in video games.

That being said, THEEOOOOO!

Race as a category is really only useful for two things.

1.) You find a human corpse and you want to tell the police generally what it looks like before they get there.

2.) You need to go and meet someone you've never seen before at the airport, bus station, docks....etc.

Wow, I can't believe all the positive responses. I was sure this episode would go over like a flaming turd. Thanks everybody!

@ the Company- The video was originally about 6 minutes long, but I chickened out and made a shorter version. Maybe I'll PM you the original if I can find it.

@ UltorOscariot and Mooks- I'm really flattered that you liked Sundays with Sagat and it's original host. I've tried some different things lately, for a variety of reasons, but that doesn't mean I want to move away from the original concept of this series completely.

I hope you stick with it a little longer and see what happens. The whole thing may be coming to a close soon, but I still have about four more episodes to post for sure. I think that you'll like at least one of them.

NO! You must continue Sundays With Sagat FOREVER!!! J/K If you have to retire it please assure us that we'll be seeing MOAR live J Holmes in the future! I feel like that is one element that really sets DTOID apart (IMO), that not only do you guys have great, entertaining stuff in print, but you also have it in you to produce funny and informative video as well. When I think back, Sundays With Sagat is probably the hook that got me to return to DTOID = now I'm a hopeless video game journalizm junky. Thanx... ; )

Hi, I'm the head racist, representing the Racist Society for Shunning and Being Angry At People That Are Different Than Me (Most Especially Their Physical Characteristics), and I have to say, you should have gotten that part. Don't quote me on that, though. My board members would have a field day with that one. Something about "stealin' our jobs, then our wives, next we ain't got a trailer ta live in!".
