Deus ex is on my list for the future. A little behind.
I guess this is more a broad impression than a set of specifically citable instances of games doing poorly, but yeah, definitely had a sense that they were not doing as well as was expected/they would like. Maybe even read that somewhere. I remember being happy for them that DE:HR was doing well. No less, DE:HR wasn't a bad game with the notable exception of the Boss Battles and some weird writing, oh and the gross racism.
"West Saves East?"
Well, really don't want to go down this road by saying it, but its happened before. Thats why Square exists at all today. However, they're hardly "saved" from anything unless they make this a long term upswing.
@Evil Champ
"Square tanked because of a shitty FF13 and their FF MMO."
*rolls eyes* Yeah, okay, sure, those are the only reasons.. Lets just forget the past decade of less then stellar choices they've made that have lead to their problems and focus on just those two games.
Shinta hit it on the head, the only reason this game saved them was because it saved them THIS YEAR, when they really didn't have an FF or DQ game to support them.
keep on truckin, brutha.

I'm trying, broseph but sometimes it's like trying to argue that getting shot in the kneecap has health benefits. No one's buyin it. I appreciate the backup though Nephilym.
Honestly, even though Final Fantasy & Dragon Quest tend to make the majority of their profits, Dragon Quest IX was published by Nintendo in America instead of SQEX.
Here comes the Deus Ex remake. And the reissue of the remake. And the enhanced reissue of the special edition remake. And...
"Deus Ex shows that Western gamers still care about SE and the more fringe games are worth the risk here."
Ya think? I figured it was more like Deus Ex shows that Western gamers like games that are fun to play. I dunno about you, but I don't base my purchases or enjoyment of games on who made or published them. I just play fun games.
I don't mean to sound like I'm making fun of you. I'm totally not. I just don't understand how a well-received game is a referendum on the publisher as a whole and how it should dictate their choice as to whether or not to release risky games. How do you figure?
Not even close. The majority of there profits are still from there japanese enterprises whether thats games, or some mobile thing on gree.
Square enix just released the amazing type zero, rocket slime 3 is coming soon, dq X looks great, DDD is on the way, and more.
