Stringer says PS3 Euro launch was dandy photo

Despite the talk of massive layoffs, Sony and Howard Stringer seem to be pleased to death about the launch of the PlayStation 3 in Europe. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, right Howie? From Next Gen:

Sony chief executive Howard Stringer yesterday said the PS3 has sold 800,000 units in Europe. Speaking at the global launch of Spider-Man 3, he said the machine had “lived up to the expectations in Europe in a way that perhaps we didn't in Japan.” He said it had avoided “perception” problems in Europe that it had faced elsewhere.

Perhaps when a stronger lineup of games starts to present itself, then maybe the PS3 will actually end up back on the positive side once again. Then again, maybe pigs will fly south for the winter as well.

it surprises me from time to time when a executive will publicly say something so wrong and big media just passes over it like it never happened... A few years back GM said it would never allow Toyota to pass them in sales. lol that changed quickly.

Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry (which will be better on PS3 but I'm not allowed to say that), FF (for now), Ratchet and Clank, and who knows what else Sony has up their sleeve -- we didn't know about LBP until GDC.

In your opinion... is that enough to satisfy you for the year?

I'm not hating, I'm asking...

Yep. Also, if The Show ever comes out on the PS3, I'll be even happier.

MLB 07: The Show? Looks good, but baseball is meh for me. To me LBP, MGS, and Rachet&Clank all look quality.

Honestly, looking at what they have planned for LBP, that alone makes it a system seller.

I was gonna say that one game does not sell a system, and then I remembered why I bought a Wii. Zelda. So, LBP FTW.

I hate to bring this up again, but there have been rumors that Metal Gear Solid 4 might be getting pushed to 2008, while Final Fantasy (any of them) will most certainly be in 2008 or later. Little Big Planet does look great, but I'm not sure that what is essentially an expanded PS3 equivalent of Geometry Wars (in terms of marketplace strategy, not genre) would be as big a system seller as any of Summa's other listed games. (That does not mean I'm not totally excited about it and kinda angry that I can't afford a PS3 until it greatly drops in price.)

It's still kind of a sparse year for the PS3, but that's to be expected, and Wii is in pretty much the exact same position. The only console that's hit its stride is the 360. I bet the Wii, and to some extent the PS3, will take off towards the end of '07 into '08.

Summa u forgot to add Home to your list. Also I keep hearing this... ninja Gaiden is supposedly to rockerz-ur-sockrz off in comparison to 360.

I keep looking @ lair and one part of me says: yes, its original, need to get! other says, "those rumors keep me from getting it... ugh"
