On the downside, Streets of Rage Remake is no longer available to download for free. On the upside, SEGA is going to sell you a Streets of Rage 2 port for $2.99. I'd say that Streets of Rage fans totally walked away with a "win" this time!
Yep, Streets of Rage 2 has joined its prequel on the App store, available for your iOS device of choice from today onwards. You can buy it and think about how awesome it'd be if that Remake was officially available, or if SEGA would keep the IP alive with more than just ports.
Not that I'm a bitter Streets of Rage fan or anything ...

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
--Or at least, not as ~readily~ available to download for free. ;) Thank you, The Internet! In the old days I'd have had to pop down to the black market.
Don't worry: I feel for ya.
Pull the game then throw this up there like it'll be ok
That was the point that I realized that much nostalgia and joy was illegal and the game would most definitely be ripped down by Sega. Sure enough it was. Was it jealousy (sega would be hard pressed to make a SoR game as good as SoRR) or just legal dickery? either way, it was a lame move.
Whatever, I still have it, and I'm still going to play it.
You would say that. But you would be a douche bag if you did. This good news (and it is good news) does NOT in any way make up for the takedown of the fan version. I'd post a link to my copy of it but my comment would end up being deleted. Needless to say, it is a hell of a lot better than paying 3$ for a 15 year old game on your cellphone.
Well done Jim.
I mean, God damn, it wouldn't be so bad if you'd take a break and milk another library every now and then, like the far superior Saturn library. The fact that I live in a world where most people have never even heard of Guardian Heroes, Dungeons & Dragons Collection, Three Dirty Dwarves and Die Hard Arcade (just to mention the beat 'em ups - God knows there was plenty more) is proof that there is no justice in this world.
