Street Fighter IV trailer and preorders to kick off May 31st photo
     Fighting Games

Up until about 10 minutes ago, I had no idea what the hell EliteXC was. It turns out that it's a mixed martial arts event; kind of like Street Fighter, but with less crotch bulges. Maybe.

Those that tune in to CBS on May 31st (9 p.m. EST) to watch the EliteXC Saturday Night Fights will witness a 60 second Street Fighter IV trailer and 30 second Street Fighter IV television spots.  Immediately following the broadcast, the new trailer will debut on the newly redesigned StreetFighter.com. Don't go looking yet, as there's only a countdown timer there now. This new “artistic” trailer will feature Guile and newb Abel fighting.

When you visit the site, you'll also be able to preorder your copy of Street Fighter IV for either the Xbox 360 or PS3 exclusively from GameStop. Those who do will receive a limited edition collectable Street Fighter Tribute artbook. Nifty!

I don't care much about televised fighting, but I do dig Street Fighter. What about you? Will you be watching?

In related news, the Street Fighter: Eternal Challenge hardcover art book is back up for preorder on Capcom.com. Be a sucker like I was in January and drop 80 bucks on it because you didn't grab the paperback version a couple years ago!

Actually, it's a pretty cool book, but there isn't a lot of art for the more minor characters (sorry, Q fans.)

Don't watch that much television. I'll wait till the trailer and tv spots get online to see it. Good news about the preorder status though.

EliteXC is like the UFC except it has WWE style intros for the fighters which in my opinion is lame. It also has BillGoldburg as an announcer. I'll be watching the show as an MMA fan, but CBS really should have discussed more with the UFC and Dana White cause EliteXC from every ShoTime broadcast I've seen is fairly lame.

OOPS: Bill Goldburg is a commentator not an announcer. Either way he's not really a good one.

Man was I stoked to see MMA get a mention! I'm more excited that this is being shown during the EliteXC for the good it will do MMA than SFIV.

manasteel, I agree about Bill. Bill Goldberg is a cancer that should be removed from EliteXC. He has no idea what he's talking about and is rude, pushy and disrespectful toward the fighters during the in-ring(cage) interviews.

Mauro Renallo and Steven Quadros are both very knowledgeable and in my opinion (and many others) are far better than the UFC's Joe Rogan/Mike Goldberg (no rel. to Bill) combo.

Surely you lot will have heard about Kimbo Slice? He's fighting on this card. You'd be doing yourself a disservice by not watching this. I don't watch TV either but will switch on to catch any MMA that is showing.

BTW This is all REAL fighting, none of this WWE acting. And if you see the guys rolling around on the ground and your confused/bored by it. Try and open your mind to the technical game that is being played out, it is actually very interesting to watch.

So now we have pre-order dates and t.v. spots. Now can we get a release date Capcom?

I will echo the sentiments of Dezroy... YES!!! Some MMA mainstream love, bout time.

However. Of all the organizations to get a big time network deal for MMA... ugh, EliteXC? Did it have to be them? Their events have been pretty lack luster compared to UFC. But hey, free fights are just that, free. Can't really complain. Your bound to see some good action eventually even if they are a bit on the corny side at times because of the lack of talent in some of their fighters.

Street Fighter to find cross over fans of MMA? Meh, we'll see. But advertising is what it is. Get the word out, plant the seeds, reap the benefits. Its nice that someone in the offices of Capcom advertising sees the opportunities to be had in MMA though. This is a good sign for the sport.

Money money money money... MUUHHH NAAAYY!

EliteXC is not real MMA. It's MMA run by marketers. I mean the main event is Kimbo Slice vs. Josh Thompson. Neither of which would even be considered contenders to be contenders of the contenders contending to contend w/ high level MMA fighters.

I mean Nick Diaz & Jake Shields (possibly Eddie Alverez) are the only decent fighter out of ALL their fighters (every weight class). oh and Gina Carano, well because they actually have a womens division unlike all the other organizations. but she's about it lol. Cung Le is good, but he's technically in STRIKEFORCE, not EliteXC. Rico Rodrigez has the potential to come back but i doubt he will. He messed himself up too much w/ the coke & boozing.

Kimbo Slice (real name Kevin Ferguson) gets hype because he's a big scary lookin bald black dude w/ a giant beard and gold teeth who got famous on youtube. & he got signed & has been getting training from Bas Rutten; but he's got 2 MMA fights & they were both COMPLETE CANS. Bo Cantrell who was on a 4 fight losing streak when they matched him against 'Kimbo' Ferguson & David "Tank" Abbott who was on a 7 fight losing streak against not very good fighters, the quintessential can. Only person he beat in the last 10 years was Wesley Correira (not a very good fighter). He had a name because he fought in the very early UFCs, but he's old (44 years), out of shape & nowhere near as technical as present day fighters.

I mean he fought how he get's to be the main event ahead of EliteXC's own championship fight is beyond me. They're really trying to sensationalize it i guess. I just hope they don't go too far & create a bunch of pissed off morality police to get McCain to ban it (if McCain becomes president). McCain was famous for trying to make MMA illegal when he was reppin Arizona.

Now, Affliction, Adrenaline & DREAM are actual contenders to the UFC. Affliction's first card "BANNED" (aptly named because their clothing line was banned from fighters wearing it on UFC events) will have Fedor Emelianenko (considered the best fighter ever in the history of the sport), Tim Syvlia (former UFC heavyweight champion), Josh Barnett (ex UFC heavyweight champion, ex PRIDE heavyweight contender), Pedro Rizzo, Matt Lindland, "Babalu" Sobral, etc.. all legendary fighters. & up and commers like Ben Rothwell (IFL heavyweight champion) & Fedor's brother Aleksander Emelianenko BSET card of the year imo.

DREAM has also had great fights, though it's a Japanese event so less people are familiar with it. But it's being aired Free on HDNet. http://www.HDNetFights.com Their in the middle of a lightweight & midldleweight tournament right now.

& Adrenaline (formally M-1 Global who put on the awesome Yarranoka new years eve show @ the Saitama super arena in Toyko) will be airing fights free on HDNet too.

EliteXC only has one thing going for it, it's on free network TV in prime time. ppl who dont know the sport will see it and be like "that was awesome those guys really know how to fight"; which is good & bad imo.

It gives more attention to EliteXC which isn't a very good MMA company, but it also gives exposure to the sport which might get ppl interested enough to find the better organizations and watch some really good technical fights.

EliteXC will be putting somewhat unskilled but tough brawlers in front of each other hoping for excitement; which is another thing which might mislead the public about MMA & is not that good for the sport.

If any DTOIDers decide they're interested in watching MMA, please do yourself a favor and go watch some PRIDE clips on youtube or dailymotion or Blinkx. Or some UFC highlights. Don't form your opinion of MMA based on EliteXC; it's really much better than that.

Oh, and SF4 Artbook? I hope i don't have to order it online through their site. Is it any pre-order from gamestop? Or is it only on that day & only online through the street fighter official site?
