Street Fighter IV 'Power Up Pack' is available [Update] photo

Just a minor announcement: Street Fighter IV’s “Power Up Pack” is up and available for free download on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network. If you happen to jump on the Xbox 360 version today, you’ll be prompted from the main menu -- after a small title update -- to download the extra content.

“Power Up Pack” is the legendary Championship Mode update we’ve been talking about for the last quarter century. It adds tournament play, a new ranking system and the ability to upload and watch replays on both systems. There are some tiny differences in the replay ability between the two platforms that you can read more about here.

The update is a quick one, which will probably reenergize the “it’s on the disc” debate, but at least it’s free this time.

So, what’s up guys? You playing Street Fighter IV today?

[via Joystiq]

[Update: Fixed PS3 release stuff. Thanks, guys.]

Its been available on PSN for a couple of days. Joystiq.com also initially said it wasn't available on PSN, but it is. Is it really so hard to do a little fact checking?

I love the new championship mode, there are a lot of fantastic players that have come out of the woodwork. Far fewer shoto-scrubs :P

I'm quite certain this was copied and pasted from joystiq all except the part where they realized they didn't fact check anything. I download this since last week on my PS3. Goes to show LIVE is the only thing people seem to care about.

yeah, this has been up on PSN since Friday.

anyway, i love the update. i seem to be getting a lot more stable matches now. i primarily use the "Arcade Request" setting to get into online games b/c SFIV's search mechanic is abysmal. but i rarely got through a single Arcade mode match before getting a 3-4 bar, stable Championship Mode matchup. good stuff, Capcom.

So capcom will release this for free but not a shitty versus mode in RE5?

Downloaded it, haven't done much with it though.

I am still trying to check out of some reviews only to find that I can't seem to get any response from the capcom servers.

FYI, this has been on XBL (and PSN, apparently) since Friday. I'm finding it to be awesomely fun, the new championship mode works like a charm. The bonus replay capabilities are also pretty cool, but I feel so small and useless when I watch pro match replays :(.

@elstevo

sounds like a personal problem not having anything in common with Street Fighter.

The update for the most part is lazy programming, they should of just replaced Ranked Matches with this.

That said, its awesome to play against better competition and I have seen the elusive 'green bars' quite a few times now due to the update. Gameplay wise, I think they just made Sagat's health a bit lower.

Free is free, can't argue with that. Maybe it's on the disc. Lett's dissect the disc to find out.

@Chronic Logic

I doubt it's on the disc considering its size.

If it's free, I don't see any point of it just being unlocked from the disc. It doesn't sound like it'd be that substantial memory-wise anyway. It's not new levels or animations or sounds, just new back-end stuff.

dude if it was on the disc it would've been available from the start. the reason the download is quick is because you're only getting menu artwork. the same thing with RE5 versus. the mode itself isn't there, and there isn't much code needed to add the mode to it. both games use the same characters and levels that are on the disc because its only a new mode.

Fuck that shit. Only allowed save replays of the final round of a Championship?

That's fucking retarded. I don't care if it's free. I'd gladly pay 5-10 bucks for a real replay mode, as SFIV is probably my most played game in the last 6 months.
